Alaskan geodesic and kodiak canvas flex-bow

Any reviews on these two??? Wanting to get one to use for family trips wife and daughter, as well as take for some base camp hunts (not really needing super rugged 4 season tents)

I can only speak on my 10x14 flex bow. Best family camping tent i’ve ever owned. After my sister saw how mine performed in a pretty nasty storm, she bought one for her family.

Had an Alaskan guide 8-man and sold it for a 10x14 kodiak canvas.

The guide tent was substantially lighter and more storm worthy. If you’re not worried about those two features, the Kodiak Canvas is better in every other way.

My experience as well. I will say we have been through significant weather in our Kodiak and it did well. Not a flex-bow model, though.

I have been using a 10' x14' Kodiak in the interior of Alaska for the last 3 years, 75 nights or so. Compared to our old wall tent the Kodiak is a dream, fast set up, sturdy, and very warm with the added Kni-Co Alaskan stove.
We hunt with a river boat so weight is not an issue.

alright sounds like the kodiac it is then, leaning more towards the flex bow vs the 10x10 cabin. ive got a Mr buddy propane heater so dont need the added stove but it will probaby be me setting up most of the time and seems like the flex bow is more of a one person operation

I've had a couple of the Alaskan Guide tents( 8 man and now a 6 man) and have been very happy with them, no problems with wind or rain and easy to set up. I also have an Alaknak for when I'm with more than 2 partners, but usually use the Alaskan Guide when I'm going solo or for a shorter trip.

Get the flex bow over the cabin style. I can set up my flex bow by myself in about 6 minutes.

I had a 10x14 Flex-Bow Deluxe. I was originally going to purchase a Springbar, but took a chance on the Kodiak. The Kodiak had an extremely thick floor, big zippers, and robust stakes. And it was really easy to set-up, take down, and pack by myself, especially for the size.

One thing that really stands out with the canvas Flex-Bow vs. a synthetic dome tent is how cool they are during a hot day in the sun. Whereas a dome tent is generally hot and stuffy, the Kodiak was considerably cooler. That stated, during colder months I could feel the cold air moving through the tent walls. Might not be an issue for your family camping though.

If you do use the tent in winter, snow will stick to the canvas. I put tarps on mine during one storm with wet and heavy snow. Even so, the canvas got soaked and the tent seemed like it doubled in weight. Again, probably not an issue with your intended use.

Agreed, I have a stove jack in the 10X14 and bought the same tent in the VX model for warm weather.

The 8 man Alaskan is our car camping tent and its a great tent. It has handled all sorts of weather and my wife and I can set it up quickly.
