Alaskan Bear Guide Recommendations

Looking for recommendations on Alaskan bear guides, any watch outs to look for and suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

For brown bears I'd go with Phill Shoemaker. Phil has a great AKPen area and the 4 friends I've referred to Phil all came back with nice bears.

For baited interior grizzly or black bears, I'd go with Matt Snyder of Alaska Adventures.

For a wilderness hunt for interior grizzly via horseback in the mountains, I'd choose Will Kohler of Wrangell Outfitters.

There are other good guides but these I personally know to produce quality bears for their hunters.

for brown bear, I would look at the peninsula with either Phil Byrd, Phil/taj/Tia shoemaker, Cabot pitts or lance kronberger.

I poked around on some of the mentioned guides websites but didn't find pricing? Is a brown bear hunt in the 20,000$ range these days.

Most of the better, big name outfitters on Kodiak or the Peninsula are approaching $30,000. These usually have exclusive guide areas and on Kodiak, guaranteed tags.

I found most interior grizzly hunts to be 15-20K for a stand-along hunt (not an added to moose or sheep). For Brown bears, depending on realistic expectation on size, run between 20K and 30K. I have seen some of the baited brown bear hunts going for less than that, but I think the odds on those hunts are a bit lower as they are not in sole-use concession areas.
