I know, no such thing.....right?!?! I'm trying to plan a trip as a gift, to my dad and father in law, and my son will be 11 years old at the time (legal to hunt alaska) I've looked into the caribou drop stuff a little. Just looking to get all of my options, if anyone has done something similar or has any idea's, I'd like to hear them! Thanks in advance!

I posted this same question a few weeks ago. Was thinking caribou like you but dad and I decided on a pow blacktail hunt. Going to have a charter drop us off at a high country lake and then hopefully back pack some of the Alpine stuff I want to see from Google earth. Sounds like there are a ton of deer just not a lot of legal bucks.

I would look into DIY Kodiak Blacktail. Look at a Forest Service cabin you fly into

This is a very good option and if you are willing to spend a little more money you can fly to the southern part of the island and possibly have a chance at a caribou.

I'm able to do one big trip ($$ non-local fly out), a year and the last five years or so it's been Kodiak. My reasons for this are, relatively cheap (as far as fly outs go), it's relatively easy logistic wise, as a resident I can hunt multiple species (2 goats, 3 deer, caribou, and a brown bear if I draw a tag) for no added cost and, it's a super beautiful place in the world If you catch it right. The only downside to Kodiak is, it can be one of the most horrible places in the world you'll ever visit if you catch it wrong.

This's something I hadn't thought of. What time of year? My FIL could probably only realistically walk a couple miles a day, as he has had some health issues. Is this something he could have fun doing without a serious amount of walking? Is there good hunting around these cabins?

Yes there is good hunting around the cabins. I am not aware of any cabins that the caribou would be within reach. If you go early you really have to get up high to chase the older deer, as the season progresses snow does push them down.
