Alaska hunts

Yeah, I scrubbed specific words from several old posts of mine. In the context of the thread, it is easy to guess what I'm talking about, but at least Google will no longer pull up my post for those terms.

I'll still help by PM on a case by case basis.
Thank you. Your actions prompted me to go back and edit several as well.

I don’t know all the rules, so understand that, but there should be exceptions for OIL hunts, IE sheep/goat/moose in the lower 48. Exteremely hard draws like AZ early rifle elk tags, strip, Utah le etc.

Just my .02 as hotspotting isn’t an issue and the draw odds are already astronomical.

One opinion -

Creating a post stating "Drew MT Sheep Tag" and then asking for info via PM's = acceptable

Creating a post stating "Drew MT Sheep 680-30" and then having a discussion on hotspotting = seems unacceptable.

But again, just one opinion. Not everything needs to be blasted all over the web.

how does kodiak fall into reporting? Is it ok to say "hunting deer on kodiak" and not ok to say "hunting deer in Unit 8"? which unit 8 is all of kodiak? how about in SE ak for deer. I assume a thread labeled "SE AK Deer hunting" would be fine, but the if specific islands start getting named, would that be to specific. (id think so)

Wow, maybe we shouldn't even mention Alaska on the forum lol

There was alot of discussion behind the scenes of how/what we wanted to restrict in the open forum. Ultimately we just wanted to limit Google users from taking advantage of the generous Rokslide community, with I drew this unit please help me posts.

This will remain a forum of sharing hunting information, with the understanding that some information is best shared by private message.

Asking about deer hunting in SEAK is harmless in my opinion. However, when captain flexnuts responds with, "It's easy, anchor in this cove, hunt this hill face." That blows up a spot permanently. If you start naming specific information in an open forum, there's no limit to the exposure you've just created. For reference, look at # of thread views vs # of comments where specific hunt info is given.

Asking a draw tag specific question and keeping it in the PM's is relatively harmless but be prepared if you're the guy who responds "PM sent." You will be bombarded every year when that tag is drawn. Send a PM if you feel compelled but don't reply to the thread. I'd further add that if you've gotten the info you desire, ask a mod to delete the thread.

Finally, just because you have no intention of hunting an area ever again doesn't mean you need to broadcast the info everywhere possible in a hunt recap. Not my chair, not my problem and they're on to burn the next spot.

For all of our future selves; if you must share pics or video, please crop skylines and bodies of water out. Rather than asking about TAG123 add spaces so it doesn't show up on a google search. For example: Looking for info on T A G 1 2 3?

And remember kids, killing predators today could save the new world record's life tomorrow.

When someone asks about specific units:

If it is a FNG (since they may not know any better) I provide a link to the forum rules.

If it is a WKR (who should know better than to start posts asking about specific units) I direct them to the most appropriate unit, and that is unit 370HSSV. And tell them to go deep.
