I am wanting to extend my deer hunting season for the future. I was thinking of going to Alabama hunting. Are there any places that I should look at?

Thank you

Jason

I’m in a lease there outside of Greenville. I’m here now. In a pine tree. It warmed up on us. Pretty slow the last week. By the way I’m originally from your area (Findlay). My cousin from Fostoria was just here last week. Cant help you with any public hunting areas never hunted any public here.

The SOA draw program has good hunting, but it’s a mix of random and preference points. Still, if you can win a hunt in the black belt you will have a good chance at nice deer. Besides the black belt of AL I believe the TN border WMAs are supposed to be the best.

You didnt say exactly what you were looking for but a few years ago a group of us went to Bent Creek Lodge in Jachin,Leo Allens place. All but one of us shot a buck. They put you up good, feed you great and the hunting ground is good too.

Got ya. Not too far from our place. I've been trying to get their harvest statistics but hard to find. They've killed some good ones there in years past. If I was in state, I'd try to put in for it.
I am hoping to slowly get to go to each of the SOAs as I get preference points. I have never seen such a high density of deer as I did at and around Cedar Creek. Lot of hog sign as well.

I appreciate your willingness to share your passion for hunting Alabama with others, but can we please not blow up the Alabama SOA program on a nationwide hunting forum? I feel like this would be good info to share via PM.

Fair enough. I respect that and I'll keep that in mind in the future. Although, I think you may be overestimating the SOA program being special and discreet. Most of the states in the US have WMA's, state parks, and other "limited" hunts that have a draw system. I wouldn't really view any of them as "low-key".

Banger of a 66th post.
You can google images of SOA hunts and find all sorts of big buck pictures
It's not like we're talking about the exact tree a 140 inch 8 point was killed in Unit 1 of Uchee Creek SOA.
And no, I don't know what tree that deer was killed in, but I googled Uchee Creek SOA and found all that I needed to know about it from a post on another forum.
Gotta draw the hunt, to get to go there. Not like he's talking about which ridge to hunt in Black Warrior

I'm being polite and respectful. This forum wont allow anyone to talk about specific units in any western state (that are literally thousands of square miles) but it's cool to blow up an Alabama unit hunt that has a tenth of a percent of the draw opportunity on units that average hundred of acres. Just talking about which units are good/ bad in the SOA has for more potential for blowing out that unit in the draw than talking about a unit un wyoming, yet it's cool if it's Alabama?

If a ton of people see this and apply for every hunt at Uchee Creek, then we all have a terrible chance of drawing. Just because Alabama doesn't assign unit numbers to the hunts doesnt make it any less damaging then teling everyone to put in for unit XYZ in Wyoming, that would get flagged and edited with the quickness on any other thread.

as has always been SOP on this site, sharing info on specific units is fine, just do it over PM.
