Alabama auctioning public land as hunting leases

I'm in PA we have the largest areas of public land to hunt. I couldn't imagine seeing "more access to the public " on one side of the mouth while the other side of the mouth is saying let's sell these leases to the highest bidder. It's not making it even or fair to anyone except whoever has money

I was gonna say it’s not a bad deal if they flood the market with leasable hunting ground. Co has done this forever, it can be a tough system to break into, seems like a good old boy deal on some leases, but if you can get one it seems great

This is the same plan Mississippi follows. I am not sure what lands are up for lease in Alabama though. Here all of the 16th section school board land is leased by the county in which it is located. Some leases are the entire section, some are only a portion. The only state owned land you can hunt in Mississippi are managed as WMAs.

Ya, I've always wanted to get in on some of the CO state land leases.......for the right properties. But the DOW probably has more money than me to lease them.

Good on 'em.

For the size these tracts are, it's smart to get the lease money and a shot at some oversight from the interested lessees.

I believe if I killed a big buck or even saw some turkeys one of these, though, I'd keep my big mouth shut.
