Airport people watching...on par, better or worse than Wal-mart?

I just had the pleasure of flying through Cleveland airport, what a joy that was.... The obesity issue in the US is absolutely alarming.

It's time consuming, irritating, and expensive to eat healthy.

The average person in an airport will be higher class than the average person shopping at Walmart. I am always shocked at the difference in customers between Walmart and Target. I would bet $100 if you randomly selected 50 people from each store, I could identify the Target people every time. I obviously don’t think too highly of myself to go either place, I just happen to have a Target within walking distance.

Was in London on layover watching the crowds. Saw this guy with long black trench coat and top hat, about 65 long grey hair. Something out of Harry Potter. He would drop a $1 bill and stand about 5 ft away. Heavy traffic in that airport. Someone sees the bill and goes to grab it. It moves, they go to grab again and it goes up to his hand. He had fishing line tied to it watching the reactions and his passed the time.

I guess it depends on your preference. At airports you get a wider mix of people, seems like at Walmart the interesting ones are all of a couple of similar types: people who don’t care at all and people who care too much about very strange things

I fly around often. The two sightings that stand out the most to me are 1)while in Hong Kong, several very large security guards with machine guns clearing the path for very small, presumably wealthy man 2) in Atlanta, a young man with baggy pants and pockets loaded with cash, so much so that the bills were hanging out. It must have been several thousand dollars. Security took him aside...

My favorite airport memory happened two years ago in Salt Lake City. A very attractive college aged woman ran by. She was wearing a dress that was below the knee, and she had a backpack on. While she was running, apparently her dress had ridden up under her pack. She was wearing a thong, so her bare ass was showing. The airport was completely packed, and I have no idea how long it was like that. Hundreds of people were just staring at her run by. I was waiting in line for food, and I was a pretty good distance from her, or I actually would have told her.

Sitting in Denver killing a few hrs between flights and I can only stare at this screen for so long so I watch the masses go by...dear God we are doomed as a species I think...walked past a gate boarding for Portland...WOW is all I can say.
So what's your take?
Ive seen some pretty unique specimens in the bigger airports Ive been in, but Ive certainly not hit them all. Also seen some exceptionally troubling examples at various Walmarts throughout the country. I think Walmart has got the upper hand in both quality(?) and density.
What airport has the most loonies in your experience?
Is there a "People of Airports" page somewhere like what they have/had for Wally world?
Should I start one?
Its definitely interesting to watch the differences from gate to gate based on destination...
I need to take a nap, its been a long couple days...really hoping not to be stuck between two Samoans on this next flight...I hate airports.

I could see this being true from what goes up and down strip out there. Only ever took a red eye out of Vegas once and was too tired to remember a thing from the airport...Ill take your word for it though, once was enough for ne with that town.

Airports are interesting, but Walmart on a Saturday in Jackson, Ky, an Appalachian freak show.

I might have nightmares recalling my walmart trips in KY now...maybe this was a bad idea to bring up...Appalachia certainly produces its own extremely unique breed of folks without a doubt...

Ive got alot of family in the Twin Cities...Ive heard things have gotten pretty wild and weird around there so this sounds like it could in a class of its own for sure

The variety of characters at the airport really takes the cake. Happy vacationers, weary travelers, business flyers with their efficiency, busines travelers frustrated when traveling with their families, parents wrangling a horde of kids, people late for flights, people hurrying for connections, people frustrated by the lines, the list goes on and on. Im always there early, and I always grab a seat with a view.

We went to the county fair last weekend in the early afternoon. We went with another couple and our kids. After walking through the animals we decided to go back to our house and eat some dinner and then go back to the fair specifically to people watch.

While people watching we agreed we would come up with bingo cards for next year with specific people watching criteria.

For example, Cowboy Boots with shorts, cowboy boots baseball cap, cowboy hat with no cowboy boots, dad new balances with jean shorts and tucked in tee, sandals with socks, belly hanging out under tee shirt.

You get the idea. We tried a couple while we were just walking around and it seemed no matter how idiotic, we easily found what we were looking for.

I look forward to playing Bingo next year at the fair.

I think County Fairs deserve a spot at the top with Airports and WalMart.

That would be a good one. But I would rather look at the people waiting to go to Hawaii, Mexico, or other tropical destinations. My wife and I always get giggles seeing the ladies in the "airport wardrobe". You guys know what I mean... The lady who is all dolled up with her outfit she bought specifically to travel on her vacation. And my wife is no exception. She does this most of the time also.

Luckily she doesn't make me wear something that matches...
