@sndmn11 @Presswood_936 isn’t a representative, he’s just a fan of the product. We used his wolf photo because it’s a great shot and received a lot of positive feedback.

He certainly has been the most vocal spokesperson here. Although far more brash about it, he has also mirrored your demo style efforts. When you are aware of his statements and efforts in representing Airlock, but don't make it known up front there is zero association, it comes across as his genuine representation. Combined with Airlock using his content for marketing, it reinforces that there is a professional association.

If you’re in the Denver area, I can either arrange a day to fly down and let you demo one personally, or see if there’s an FFL/range locally where I could Form 3 a demo unit for you to test there. I’ll need to do some digging to see what’s possible.

I’m very transparent and an open book with everything, feel free to send me a DM and I can share my number. If there are more Rokslide users in the Denver area interested in trying one out, maybe we could set up a demo day. I know I was DM’d about one previously, but the timing didn’t work out with our schedule.

I still don't own a suppressor, and have been around two suppressed centerfire shots 10 months apart. My wife has an OG for her two centerfires but we haven't been to the range together; I have muzzle brakes on my rifles.

The guerilla marketing tactics for Airlock have been a figurative gauntlet thrown, "we will meet up with anyone" overt approach... Awesome, actual use is what Rokslide is about, I sometimes write for Rokslide, and I have zero bias due to any suppressor purchase. My hand went up to play the meet up/demo game and the public Airlock enthusiasm changed to a fizzle out in private conversation.

The scenario is definitely on topic for this thread and worthy of discussion. @khuber84 for some reason I think you might be within a day's drive, it would be great to get you involved if you are willing

I have been thinking about organizing a suppressor sample day with as many centerfire "hunting" units as possible, in the same place, same opinion-ers, same rifles, etc. Before I get too far into trying, I am asking those who might like to participate to provide the info below. Just copy paste...

Why is the fixation on the OG though? Other than "tone" and balance it's pretty loud correct? I don't get how it's any sort of standard to measure against. A Reaper would be a more apt comparison IMO, though Unknown Suppressors are still up and comers that need to prove themselves out over time, just like Airlock.

Likely it’s due to the “airlock is so much better” posts that have been put up here, and how a lot of that bled into the OG threads.

I’d like to see the OG 6.5 compared as that’s more in line with the ZG 6.5 than the original US OG. Ditto on reaper, would be good to compare.

Excellent question and very valid points.

The fixation is on the OG because Presswood hates it and we are on RokSlide. The OG is effectively the “house brand.” Presswood has been very vocally bashing the OG and praising the Airlock for months. He set up the comparison between the two cans. He basically launched a frontal assault on the OG and put forth the Airlock as the far superior alternative. As far as I know, he’s also the only one who has reported using both the OG 7.62 and the Airlock 6.5.

I think it is unfair to Airlock to have such a zealot as Presswood as their “champion.” To his credit, Presswood has been much quieter the past month or so. He’s probably been doing something more productive, like being out using his beloved Airlock. I’m glad he’s happy with his purchase. If he wants it to succeed, I hope he’s realized that his attacks on UM products cast serious doubts on his objectivity (at least for me). I am not going to purchase an Airlock just because some zealot says it’s better than the OG.

I also think it is safe to say that the Airlock 6.5 is the better .264 caliber can and the OG is the better .308 caliber can. For me, comparisons stop there. A product stands on its own merits. These things all have published measurements. I expect the Airlock to “be quieter” than the OG because it measures quieter than the OG. That is objective. Just like it is objective that I cannot shoot .277, .284, or .308 caliber projectiles through the Airlock 6.5.

Once people get into “this one sounds better without hearing protection,” we have gotten into the stupidly subjective part of things. I also partially blame UM for this with the silly “chase tones not decibels” thing. Not everyone hears tones the same way. The “nails on chalkboard” effect doesn’t bother everyone. When mounted on the same rifle, I can’t even tell the difference in sound or tone between any of my four 7.62 cans when I am using hearing protection. Of course, that is entirely subjective. And, UM’s “champion” warns everyone who reports using suppressors without hearing protection how stupid it is to shoot without hearing protection. Which it is, of course, but the aggressiveness makes for bad optics and turns off a lot of people.

Like Sandman, I have been hesitant to purchase the Airlock. Most of that is from having been burned by the Scythe and wanting to give it more time for field reports. Part of that is a concern that “the Airlock sounds too good to be true.” When I start seeing objective reports from experienced users like “I’ve now fired 1000 rounds of 6.5 CM and/or 6.5 PRC using the Airlock with no issues,” I’ll start to be more comfortable. I’m in no hurry to spend hundreds of dollars on an item that I will own for life which probably has very low resale value if it turns out bad (try selling a used Scythe TI). But, I do eventually plan to get one for my new Sauer 100. They seem like a match made in heaven.

I’ll be the first to admit my test was very much an initial impression, very low round count, and I intend to grab bystanders every time I go to the range over the next couple months for unbiased opinions. They can stand close with hearing protection or far without, I don’t care. Most likely none of them have ever heard of either can, like me they’re just around a lot of them at the range. Reason for bystanders is bc I bought them both and my opinion can/will sway during the first few months with them. That’s natural.

@swavescatter the obsession with the OG is twofold. First off, the Airlock & OG are shorter and purport to do better than previous lightweight hunting cans. They mark a step forward in that arena and it’s natural to compare them (yes the OG 6.5 would be a better comparison). Second, there’s drama surrounding the OG bc early adopters (myself included) bought it right before a price drop then a couple months in a new version came out. Rubbed more than a few the wrong way. Some are angrier than others, I can’t say I blame them.

To the credit of Unknown Suppressors, they did refund @Presswood_936 and they’ve offered a bunch of people who were upset a generous deal for the new OG 6.5; in my talks with them they’ve been candid and helpful throughout the situation. They did step up, no doubt. But I did tell them they need a PR person, ha! UM seems to have a habit of tripping out of the gate. Don’t know if I’m mad or feel for them. Or both.

I might take them up on their offer, I might not. I’m looking for a can to meet my personal criteria; if that’s the Airlock, my search ends and I won’t buy the OG 6.5 but we’ll see. Again my test was very initial and although I was very impressed I’m going to repeat it quite often. One thing was very apparent, the Airlock is noticeably better than the OG 30cal on a 16” 243. But again, this will be repeated as often as it can be for a few months.

I'll have a Reaper in hand next week and would be glad to take some side by side videos alongside an airlock and Tbac cans like I've done before. Like every other suppressor video, It will be colored by the conditions I can take the video in but should still serve as a base reference for comparison.

That being said the Reaper will likely live on my 24" 6.5cm competition gun with an SRS brake on it, the Airlock will stay on my 18" 6.5cm hunting gun. Both serving their intended purposes.

Just a bunch of guys desperate to look cool to formidulosis so they worship the OG. nothing more, its performance is pretty average. the OG65 should be better.

Get over it dude, he owes you absolutely nothing. He said it was 2am so expecting him to add days to let you a try a silencer isn't a reasonable expectation from you. You are starting to make things personal rather than being objective.

You can question my product, that’s fair, but questioning my integrity is not. I’ve made it clear multiple times that Presswood is not a representative, and continuing to say that he is or that I’m being dishonest crosses that line.

As for the demo day, you reached out to me asking if one was possible and said you were organizing it. I told you that October and early November were booked for me, and that’s where the conversation ended. For someone to request that I make time to demo something, then not follow up, and later claim I went “radio silent” isn’t accurate or fair. I’ll post the messages so people can see for themselves.

For transparency, I’ve sent two suppressors to the team at Exo, who are known for being unbiased and honest. Tyler Freel also reviewed one in Outdoor Life, and I recently sent another to a Rokslide moderator for review. I’ve offered to meet up and let people demo them and have followed through whenever possible. I feel like I’ve gone above and beyond to give people access and information.

On the note about not being a sponsor, that’s why you don’t see me commenting or liking a ton of posts, even the positive ones. I’m trying to be respectful of Rokslide’s rules. I’ve spoken directly with Ryan Avery, and he told me I’m welcome to clarify or defend my product, just not advertise. I’ve done my best to stick to that and stay professional.

The Reaper is more versatile and the ZG is smaller and lighter. You can't go wrong with either. That being said, I currently have a Reaper, and the 7mm ZG is on the way .

You're really giving off Ignatious J Reilly vibes and it's detracting from an otherwise productive thread about a really great new option for hunting suppressors.
