Air Lock Industries Suppressor

So would mirage be the only negative if you used a ZG for NRL Hunter or similar range sessions? 5-8 shots relatively quick, but still below the thresholds you guys have listed.

Only asking, because it's been pretty clearly stated that this fills a specific niche for hunting, which is why I ordered it, but I like to shoot and swapping cans around never really happens like you think it will when you buy your first can.

Hopefully my Black Friday ZG ships soon, and kicking myself for not getting the nano this morning.
If I was going to the NRL hunter with the Airlock. I would just put something like a Coletac HTP and use that. I got one on another lightweight titanium can I have and it does wonder for mirage.

@AirlockIndustries what is the highest round count y'all have on one of these cans? Not in succession just in general. I won't ever go through shot strings like y'all have posted in youtube but I'm just curious to the longevity of these cans. Granted I ordered one because it will be my hunting suppressor but depending on the longevity, I might just swap it to my trainer too. I'm sure I won't ever out shoot this can though, I'm just curious more than anything.

We have a new website going live next week that should significantly improve traffic and overall reliability. We didn’t want to launch it before this drop in case there were any bugs that could create issues with a high volume of orders.

With that said, would Roksliders prefer that we open backorders on the new website around mid-January? That would allow you to place orders at your convenience, with no rush, and we would simply update ship dates as we work through allocations.

Our goal is to do what works best for everyone. We’re also currently getting a few quotes to bring printing in-house to help support demand and timelines.
My personal preference would be to try and get one in a drop that I know will come relatively soon than to wait a year on backorder. The backorder option seems nice if you think you’d be able to keep up and keep lead times reasonable. I wouldn’t mind paying some (say 50%?) up front with the backorder option, might keep the line a little shorter that way as well.

I am hesitant to put the entire amount up front. Got burnt with Survive! knives a few years back. They got behind and were taking the money from new orders to try and fund the completion of old orders. Turned into a shitty situation. Some people got their knives many years after the orders opened, others never got them.

From now on I will only put down what I am willing walk away from on a product that is not produced yet.

Coming from a guy who has a Airlock 6.5 on the way, I prefer the way the sales go now.
One thing I’ve learned on an online forum you get a lot of opinions from guys who will never purchase a product but always wanna give their input. I know everyone has a difference of opinion, but I like to hear from people who actually purchased them.

I tried to purchase one but had issues with FFL address not being recognized. Wasn’t able to get one before selling out. I still prefer the drop dates. Maybe list the quantity in stock.

Back order please.

This seems to be playing out just like the first come first serve Idaho big game tags, maybe Airlock will have to split the next few batch's between both a back order and Drop....

I picked up the Airlock ZG 6.5 from my SOT yesterday and tried it out at the range today.

BLUF: I think it is safe to say that it lives up to the hype. Everyone who heard it agreed that it was the quietest of the three cans I shot today. Several observers also noted that the ZG had a higher pitch than the other two.

Rifle: Tikka 6.5mm CM, 20” barrel
Ammo: S&B 140-grain FMJ (average MV 2585, slightly faster than the Hornady I use for hunting).
Suppressors: AB Raptor 8 w/ 3” reflex; US OG 6.5, Airlock ZG 6.5
Weather: 48 F

I did two sessions gathering the handful of folks at the range for each session. All of them had prior suppressor experience, none was familiar with any of the three cans I brought today.

I forgot to hit record on the first session. Second session is here (pardon the old guy with his Garand, I tried not to shoot at the same time as him, but you can hear him banging away at the end of the firing line). The camera was just behind my right shoulder. As you can hear at the beginning of the video, I don’t expect much from smartphone mics, but some folks asked for it.

Quotes not captured on video:

“It’s not as quiet as my Scythe Ti using .300 Blackout subs… but obviously that’s not a fair comparison.”

“All three are very quiet, but I have to give the edge to the second one [the ZG 6.5].”

“That second one [the ZG 6.5] has a much higher pitch, but it sounds quieter.”

My subjective impressions as shooter. The Raptor had the least felt recoil. The ZG had noticeably more thump. Of course, this is expected based upon relative weights. And none were at all unpleasant to shoot.

It did get noticeably hotter than the others. With the LS Wild cover, I could still unscrew it after five shots. I noticed slight mirage with the cover after the fifth shot. I also have an LS Wild cover on the OG 6.5.

I concur with the observers that the ZG was the quietest relative to the others, but all were very quiet.

In the future, I plan to rent some sound equipment and run a test where I don’t have M1 Garands in the background.

POI shift: The rifle was sighted in using different ammo (Hornady factory 140-grain ELDMs) and with the Raptor. This ammo was hitting about 0.5” higher with the Raptor. With the Airlock and OG, each was about 2” higher than that. The ZG 6.5 and OG 6.5 shot to the same POI.

If you have any questions, ask away.
Thanks for doing this video, I can’t wait to get my hands on the zg 6.5!

You guys wanting to minimize mirage should look into some of extreme heat covers from Armageddon or corset from Cole tac. It'll add weight but it will help with delaying mirage.

I’m gonna try this. I had a suppressor cover with the OG (my first suppressor purchase), but quickly tossed it bc I wanted to “train as the gun would be in the field”. You guys made me curious now. Once I’m done with my OG65 vs ZG65 comparison I’ll order one of these up. See if it’s annoying in the scope, changes POI, anything like that. If I could run drills with these lightweight suppressors I’d be on Cloud 9.

I've got other suppressors and I have covers, just kind of wanted to make sure that "NRL Hunter type" shooting would be within the parameters of not abusing the airlock.
On my lighter suppressors, I always feel the cover just holds more heat. The titanium does cool fast as well.

I've never noticed any difference in accuracy, shift, or anything else, but it's all been anecdotal.

I took the Airlock back to the range today (on the Sauer 100 6.5 CM with 22” barrel). Temperature was in the mid 40s and weather was dry. I am still using the LS Wild cover. I was shooting groups to try to determine the best factory load for it. I also experimented with different rates of fire to look at mirage.

With Hornady Match 140-grain ELDMs, I noticed that three shots in a minute produced enough mirage to be noticeable, but not to really affect my view of the target. Adding two more quick shots produced significant mirage. Taking a sixth shot would have been affected by mirage. This dissipated fairly rapidly with the breach open and a slight breeze.

I eventually settled on loading a 10-round magazine 50:50 with random live rounds and snap caps. This enabled me to exercise fundamentals like rapidly working the bolt for follow-up shots and reacquiring sight picture, while slowing my ROF down some. It also helped me observe and work on some anticipation that crept into my groups. After each magazine was complete, I left the breach open while I reloaded with my eyes closed. This was enough to keep mirage minimal through the rest of the session. I’d estimate that a sustained rate of 30 rounds/hour is very practically attainable with the ZG 6.5 without accuracy or precision being affected. And, in cold weather with a breeze, maybe even 60/hour.

I think that’s 80 rounds through the ZG 6.5 and Sauer 100 combination so far. Still very pleased with them, but for extended range work from a bench, I miss my RokStok, heavier scope, and heavier suppressor.

So when these come back in stock. How do you do the paper work? I have only bought from silencer central because they are 10 minutes from me and it was super easy to get everything done there. How does the FFL transfer work? Does any FFL work? I am hoping to pick up a nano next drop for my ulul.

I can understand the advantage of a drop from manufacturer side, but from my side I often feel it’s a way to manipulate demand. For other products I’ve completely went away from buying them after missing out on a drop or two. I’d rather place a backorder with a well understood ship date….not a CarbonSix ship date that is blown by months & months

Can’t wait to get my ZG can in the spring! Keep up the good work innovating and being transparent in your testing and R&D.

Same. I gave up on getting a Rokstock for that very reason, but finally gave in last week now that it’s just order and wait.

Good to hear experiences. Keep feeding em sir! Thanks

I've never noticed any difference in accuracy, shift, or anything else, but it's all been anecdotal.

I’ll try to set up something empirical. As far as durability…it would take a lot more than 8-10 shots non-automatic to get anywhere near 800 degrees.

Danny can chime in but I’m pretty sure there was no damage after his 100 round torture tests. I’d wager the same at full auto would ramp up the temps much higher.

If you are wanting the can to cool quicker without a chamber chiller, I slide the cover off over the barrel, only leaving maybe an inch actually on the can. This prevents you from having to fight to get the cover back on, but also lets the can cool considerably quicker. As with anything, there are tradeoffs. The thicker can covers will hold off mirage longer, but will also take longer for the can to cool down.

Hey everyone, I’ve been a bit MIA catching up on emails from our last drop.

@tak Our suppressors are good to go for NRL Hunter. Just run a cover, such as an Armageddon Gear cover or something similar.

@Brandon_SPC We had one unit with roughly 2,000–2,500 rounds on it before cutting it open to inspect for wear. The burn-down can (100 rounds of 6.5 PRC) had around 500 rounds on it prior to the test and showed no damage. I’ve continued using that same suppressor for demos and have since put another 250 rounds on it. I’m still running it to see how it continues to hold up after it sustained abuse.

One thing worth noting: minor heat cycling isn’t particularly hard on a suppressor (5-10 shots, let it cool, repeat). Once you push a can to the levels I did, even if there’s no visible damage, the titanium itself is permanently weakened. That’s why suppressor manufacturers recommend not exceeding 800°F, higher temperatures permanently reduce material strength.

@passinggas33 It will be fine for those cartridges. We even bored out a Nano and ran it on a 6UM. The design parameters (material and wall thickness) remain consistent across the lineup; only the form factor changes (length, OD, etc.).

@Hurley88 A full-auto test on a 10.3" generates significantly more heat, not more pressure, but definitely more thermal load. On the Nano burn down the brass at the end turned blue meaning the chamber was over 400 degrees on that rifle at the end.
