It’s been a busy few weeks of guiding, I was able to put some of my clients on some big rams. Here in Hawaii anything over 30 inches is a great Ram. So far this season we have had 9 hit the ground. Last weekend had a bow hunting client take a Ram that was sick. He was acting odd, alone, in the open and just staring at a hill side. I glassed him for about 20 mins and decided we would make a stalk on him. Got to 48 yards and the client felt comfortable. He got him laced and upon further inspection my suspicions were confirmed. He had a hole in the side of his head full of maggots. I have no clue how he was surviving but he was. To me it looked like maybe someone tried to brain shot him with a small caliber. After that we glassed a ram that would have been 33 inch plus but couldn’t close the deal but he was able to back a 30 inch left and 29 1/2 right with broomed tips. The biggest Ram so far this season 32 inch’s was taken by me on a solo hunt when i had free time between clients. I was able to get My daughter to take her first animal and it was a beautiful Ram scoring 29 5/8 left side and 29 right side. My son also killed a beautiful Ram that just made the 30 inch mark. Another client brought his two boys along and I was able to get them on some great sheep the smallest booking 28 and the largest just a hair over 30. These are all feral sheep and hybrids, The muflon sheep rut is in full swing so hopefully we can have a couple hit the ground soon. The kifaru has definitely been busy, I’ll be on the look out for a striker bag here shortly. I ran the ma Duce while hunting back country in the mainland but now that we have moved back to Hawaii it’s more bag then I need. None the less it’s definitely been packing meat. Until next time - Kai
