Age my Ram. UPDATE: official age is confirmed. see last post.

Well its official, just got the results earlier today from MATSON's Lab. in their CC (certainty code) field listed this a "A" highest quality tooth sample, so they are confident in the result given.
this was super fun, and many of you guys got it spot on.
Ram aged at 12 years old !!!
now that i know official age i can clearly make out all the lines from 4year ring on and it does add to 12
super stocked on my once in a lifetime ram.



also now that its been over 5 month since i got the ram i just grabbed measuring tape and scored him.
seems like overall it shrunk about 2" total since i first green scored him. (seems like D1 bases shrunk the most from original date)
originally i had him at 168 1/8
today i scored him at 166 4/8

Congratulations again. Excellent sheep to take as it's days on the mountain were limited. I wish we all could take one that old.

Sheep are generally very difficult for us to age. Your sample was an exception and made for a good photo. Just with my phone but thought you and other folks on here would appreciate seeing what your tooth actually looks like. I put red dots on all the annuli. Counting from dentine layer on right to outer cementum left the first dot is year 2 since the teeth do not erupt until the age of 1. Thank you for your patronage and glad we were able to get a clear age for you!

WOW how amazing is this !!!! Thanks for finding me on here and sharing it. Very interesting. When I sent teeth in I was somewhat concerned as they were so small and worn down. But I’m very happy you were able to do your magic and age him.

Also my NM Bull Elk was a surprise at 8 years old

That's straight up awesome that you posted this picture. I have always wonder "how" teeth were aged and this is a great explanation.

That makes way more sense @ 12

They start shrinking the min you shoot them. Most really big heads get refrigerated 38 degrees with a with high humidity until official scoring. Take your initial score by Biologist or you and add 1.5” about what it would of grossed
