Hello Everyone,

I have been a browser on this site for awhile but rarely post. I am reaching out for recommendation for a Africa Hunt Guide/Safari. I have convinced my wife that for our 10 year anniversary we should go on a safari. I am looking for a place that would be accommodating to her as a non-hunting companion and for me to experience my first African Hunt.

I have done some preliminary research but I am a little overwhelmed with all the options out there. If any of you have had a great experience that you would recommend I would be greatly appreciated.

Limcroma safaris was great for my wife and I. She is not a hunter but loved going along in the truck and seeing all the animals and scenery. They cater to family's and couples. She also had a few other activities she did. She even decided to shoot her first animal (kudu).

To get good recommendations, you need to specify what you are wanting to hunt. Plains game, cape buffalo, ect. If you are looking for a good plainsgame hunt I'd be looking at Namibia or Botswana.

If you are looking for dangerous game, I'd personally suggest Zimbabwe.

Happy to give you a few names once you clarify what your expectations are.

I said I was going to Africa once and ended up going 8 or 9 times. It's a magical place.

I've gone twice with Cape to Cairo hunting safaris. Cedric and his wife Karin have been fantastic for our trips. Both trips were for plains game. The first was to South Africa and Namibia for the second. I thought Namibia was a way better experience, but I also had more funds that time.

X2. My buddy went with them abs said it’s first class in every way possible. He’s hunted all over with several outfitters and guides in his life and said this one couldn’t be beat!

I spent a couple hours with a guy from South Africa the other day and ask him if it is really as bad there as what I've heard/read, he said it was 100 times worse. Brutal, ugly stories, I've hunted there before at this point I would look elsewhere in Africa for a safari. The people doing all the killing are the animals that need to be hunted.

Being my first time I was thinking plains game and I really do want something that my wife would enjoy as well.

Thank you to all for you suggestions. This give me a better idea of where to start narrowing the focus a little.

I feel like I am in a little over my head at this point with there being so many options. Appreciate the input from everyone.

I’ve heard Namibia strikes a good balance for hunting and other things to do. A good friend in Botswana often travels to swakopmumd for holiday.

might get in contact with Diana Rupp from sports afield magazine. She may have some good advice for both you and your wife.

you are lucky your wife is willing to go. Mine won’t. But that’s OK, I get africa alll to myself. Although my daughter wants to go now.

Contact a booking agent. Don’t get sold on a “deal” where you package 3 animals and lodging for cheap, you’ll be greatly unprepared for what you’re really about to spend and experience. My wife and I did 14 days in Namibia, killed 15 animals and did 7 days of tourism type stuff. All free range, great experience, camp, and meals. Would highly suggest. Hunter Zim and Zambia as well. PM if you’d like agent or outfitter recommendations.

You might look into a consulting group like Neal and Brownlee. It’s usually a little higher priced but they take all the guess work and have worked out most of the logistical issues.

Ken Moody Safaris is really great operation. A friend and I went with him in 2019. I would write down what you are looking for in a trip, and talk to him. It is safari season now, so maybe send him an email. He is very responsive, and can answer any questions you have. He made our trip very simple. He met or exceeded all our expectations.

Jan Olefse Safaris in Namibia. Great place and great accommodations. You can take day trips for activities and they have some natural history/site seeing activities.

His family runs it now as Jan passed but look him up. Very instrumental in African conservation, was in Hatari with John Wayne. The property was also historical in the separation of South Africa and Namibia. Really cool place.

Alternate though do some time for her / time for you. I have only been once but ended up falling into a trip in Namibia. Rented a hilux with roof top tent and went from Windhoek up to etosha over to the coast and down to swakopmund and back camping most of it and occasionally staying at park hotels. Multiple parks and photo safaris so was able to do that portion for the non hunt portion and then did a week of plains game hunting. Namibia is basically playground for Germans in the summer. Seemed safe and everyone I talked to refused to go south Africa because of safety issues. Super easy firearm import process and no fuss visas. Super easy to explore and compared to other places I have been less corrupt. Not one push for a bribe the entire time. Cannot make a trip overseas to india or china without a push for a kickback.

Most first time hunters to Africa will do a 5-7 day plains game hunt in South Africa or Namibia. Easier to get to, excellent plains game hunting, fairly priced and most clients are Americans.

If traveling with the wife and for an anniversary I would look at adding a few days and doing the Eastern Cape of South Africa. Spend a day or two in Cape town, get a driver and do the garden route up the coast (like wine country in California). Great wine, food and awesome places to stay. End the trip with a hunt in the Eastern Cape.

Have done the trip myself and had several buddies and their wives do it as well. Only complaint was when can we go back. Lots of solid outfitters in Eastern Cape. Had great time with Andrew Harvey at Safari trails international. took care of everything. https://safari-international.com/

^^^^^^^I would not personally do that, South Africa has changed. The guy from South Africa I talked to the other day told me, he knew of white farmers where they tied the man and wife up, raped their kids in front of them and then poured boiling water down the kids throats and killed them. Then raped his wife in front of the husband, hung her upside down and shoved a broken bottle in her vagina, then killed both of them.
This stuff is just a way of life there now, white people are driven from their homes and forced to live in camps with no way to earn money to feed their families, nobody will hire them. Churches bring in loads of supplies to feed them and the government confiscates it.
The government has given permission to take land from white people, with no compensation, if they defend themselves or their property they will be prosecuted and nothing will happen to the attackers.

This is several years old and its got much worse since, they have politicians running for office on a platform of killing white people.

This is worth watching

Only time I spent a full day and night in Cape Town was in like 1995 or 1996. Even then we were told not to leave our hotel after sunset. No way in hell I'm traveling around the country now.

What’s happening in RSA is similar to the Mau Mau rebellion in Kenya.

I went with Pieter Delport with Eintracht Jagd Safaris www.eintrachtjagd.com

A buddy and I went and had a blast for our first time, in 2018. I thought it was nice, but you aren't going to get the massage and all the other stuff like the five star places. I would highly doubt you would find a cheaper place to hunt low fence (most of it) for a far better price than anyone else.

He told me he had 200k acres to hunt which included neighboring ranches. If you would like more information you could message me.
