Affordable spotter (<$1k)

If you can find a used Kowa 663/664 (ideally with the fixed 30x wide angle eyepiece) that is a fantastic spotter that can often be found for under $1k and resold in a year for about what you paid. They were way underrated and are on the very flat spot of the depriciation curve.

Is this the one you're referring to, or are there other models? link

Thoughts on 55mm vs 66mm? Is it worth the extra weight or would a Kowa 554 be sufficient for sheep?

I didn't read the thread but @Travis Bertrand said this is a ton of value and since he wrote it, it's been around for less than $1K

Ya, it's hard to argue with a Vortex on a budget. But do remember that if you don't like it, or want to upgrade, it can be difficult to sell them because of their warranty and market saturation.

That's the one and is a smoking good deal. I'd take that over the 55 for sure.

Yea, I just would like to find one shipping from US, they all say "ship from Japan". Kind of skeptical on that.

I actually offloaded my Swaro ATC in favor of the 13-39x56 Razor, the Swaro was better but it was hard to tell a big difference. They are light and compact. I'm not full time glassing with mine, I use it to digiscope and to get closer looks at things I deem interesting in my binos. You can find deals easily on them, this was the first google result for me. $800 here.

If DIY sheep adventure, RENTING is the best option, your eyes will thank you
Sheep hunting is very stressful on the eyes when glassing all day !!
Renting or buying a quality tripods is mandatory IMO

The small 56mm Razor is no slouch. Just saying the V word around here is like slapping someone’s momma, BUT there’s a few non biassed reviews out there showing that it holds its own and then some.
