I’m thinking about picking one of these up before I head out on my cow hunt next week instead of using via’s. I drink quite a bit of coffee throughout the day and was thinking I may pack this on my backpack trips also.

Looking for opinions from guys that have used them, thanks.

Buddy at work has one and loves it. Makes a really good cup of coffee. Certainly not as easy as Via, but definitely a step up in potential quality. Some clean up involved and you’ll need the filters. If you’re willing to pack the weight, the parts and deal with the clean up, you’ll love the coffee.

i personally like "heavy or dirty" coffee, so i prefer a french press over all else. But, a french press is difficult to clean, especially in the woods. I would put the clever or an aeropress as next on my list. Both of these you get a clean cup and you can let the grounds sit in the water for however long you like. Both of these are easier to clean and the aeropress takes up less space. Definitely buy a metal screen filter for the aeropress.

I love my areopress. I use it all the time at home and truck camping, but haven't ever taken it on a backpack hunt. Vias are good enough for me backpacking...

I switched to an areo press from packets when I'm camping out of my truck and sometimes backpacking. I love it, its replaced my chemex at home.

I love my AeroPress but still think I would stick to Via packets while hunting.

I love mine. You can get a stainless steel filter so you can push out the grinds. Not much mess and can't beat fresh ground beans.

Makes a great cup of coffee for the house and maybe truck camping. Too much hassle though for a backpack in my opinion.

Absolutely love mine. You can not fallow the instructions and get a stronger cup. Put the plunger in and turn it upside down. Take the filter off add coffee and water, then put filter on and flip it onto your cup and plunge. I have used mine in the back country a lot but when I am looking to drop some weight or save some space It gets left.

I might have to get one of these. I've really considered getting a french press for camping but haven't because of how much water/paper towels they'll take for clean up after every use. With this, it seems as though you'll just be able to scrape the grounds off with your finger and be done. The only negative is it requires filters though.

Thanks guys, I’m sold. Truck camping all the way for my cow hunt. I do a lot of low key backpack trips in the summer scouting and taking my boy out, so I’ll probably take the press on those.

You can get washable metal replacement filters for them. It's just a flat disc that replaces the paper filters.
