Howdy! My name is ######. I’m getting ready to start hunting elk next year. What are some things, maybe top three things, I need to start concentrating on to improve my success/experience?

- learn about wind/thermal currents
- invest in the right boots and pack for you
- leave early, stay out all day

Start this year, not next- You are wasting time and that's the most valuable thing in life.

On a side, seems a bit incongruent that your Avatar is with a good archery killed bull..... Maybe this is a bit tongue in cheek post at all the FNG's asking generic elk questions? :ROFLMAO:

When he starts selling swaros in the classified, everybody better double check everything before handing over any money imo.

@fngTony can you look into this please? Old account, now recently reactivated. Let’s keep our people safe

Don't.....find a hobby where you don't chase smart tough bastards in some really bad terrain and weather, only to get where they were and they are gone.
You will be happier in life:ROFLMAO:

1. Try to go this year. The only way to learn how to hunt elk is to hunt elk.

2a. Nearly all the equipment that you have to whitetail is adequate for elk. You don't need much new gear.
2b. Nearly all the equipment that you camp with is adequate for elk. Camping at your truck is easier and better to learn the ropes/area.

3. Find an active hobby (tennis, running, pickleball, martial arts, etc). That will get you started on getting in shape.

4. Work to shoot 300-400 yards using field rests. Limit actual shots to where you can hit an 8" plate consistently with field rests (benches and prone don't count).
