Yes I agree. It is no fun hunting with someone who gives up easily and wants to go home early. I will not go out west with a guy unless I'm certain he will hunt hard and stick with it. I would much rather be hunting alone than with someone who holds me back.I would just make sure that you have your own vehicle, your own shelter, and your own gear so worst case scenario you can do whatever you have to do. That way they can do whatever they want to do, and you can do the same if need be.
Going alone can also be tough. On solo trips you find out just how bad you want it. When things aren't going well, it can be easy to talk yourself into giving up a few days before you planned. And there is no one there to give you a pep talk. Ending a big destination trip early leads to major regret in the offseason. Especially if you are paying nonresident tag prices.
A good hunting partner will motivate you to stick with it. You both keep grinding because you don't want to let the other guy down. Somebody like that can be hard to find.
