It's a month before the season and my under armour's just ain't cutting it. Granted, I didn't spring for the upper end boots on their line, but as I am looking Meindls and Saloman Quest boots have caught my eye. Anyone run these kind of boots. Not sure which pair to pull the trigger on.

I bought some Meindls earlier this spring and I'm impressed with them so far, they are really comfortable and have been easy to break in so far

Quests 4D's are a light hiker requiring no break in; a little more substantial than a Renegade. If you're not going to be in rocky ground and a flexible sole is OK, they should be fine. Water will go thru them quickly as noted in a review done on them by one of the Rokslide crew.

I have the quest 4D. As wapiti bob said, they are a light hiker with little to no break-in period. Just realize what that means support-wise. I haven't had any leaks in mine yet.

I just picked up my second pair of Salewa's, I've put 4 seasons on a pair of Alp Trainers. In my opinion they are slightly stiffer than the Salomon's and if you have a narrow to medium width foot i think the are about as good as it gets, lightweight, supportive and very durable.

I just got a pair of leather lined mountain trainers and while being noticeably stiffer, comparable to Meindl Denali's... they fit like a glove out of the box.

I ran salmons for a few years but wanted something stiffer. My quest never leaked but I wore gaiters in the snow. Any boot though with that many seams and stitches eventually will leak.

Check out Salewa they run wider and for my foot they fit which is the most important part. The crows for me fit amazing and are my early season boot. Super light supportive a great boot. More nimble than the quest and a lot more stiffness.

Raven 2 for later or big backpack trips. More supportive stiffer and heavier

I think I've had 3 pair of lowas, 4 salewa, 3 scarpa since Jan trying to find he one for me.

I spent several days in down pouring rain and mud with my Salomon Quests and I didn't have a single leak. I am very pleased with mine. However, they are a light hiker, so you need to know what kind of support you really need. Personally, I find them plenty supportive for my feet and ankles and I have no doubt they will continue to serve me well in the mountains this fall.

They look pretty sturdy. I'm going to have to try some on. Doing a lot more hiking this season, and will do more next season as well. Need to get boots that hold up. UA's look cool, but the one's I have aren't going to last this season.

Really??? Well, if there's one think I learned from the Grunts...that's wet feet will get you killed. So much for the advertised gortex booties. Thank you for pointing that out.

We can all give you recommendations on what boots fit OUR feet, but if they don't fit YOUR feet then they are totally worthless. Go pick up a couple pairs of boots from somewhere like REI that you can test and use outside, if they don't fit you can return them.

Thanks bro...support-wise I'm looking for no slide when I'm side hilling, down hilling, and walking on rocks. How would the Salomans hold up.

2nd time I've heard Salewa's name dropped. I'm going to look into them.

Hey thank's for the input bro. I haven't ran either brand, so I'm like a baby bird right now. haha. Saloman Quest stands up to mud and rain, no leak...that's good to hear for sure!

Good suggestion man! I'll have to find a store that does that.

I volunteered fulltime (lived on site) for ODFW at hatcheries and management areas for 5 years, staff gets a majority of their clothing, which is all outdoors related, from Cabela's - I could not tell anyone how many staff, men AND women, wear the Meindls from Cabela's and I have not ever, ever heard a negative statement from anyone about them - These folks WORK every day and are "tough" on their footwear in particular - Before I started having knee and foot troubles I wore several pairs of Meindls out with no complaints

I'm going to give the Meindl's a very serious look!
