I had to trim and chamfer the front face of my rail to get it to fit on my 280ai. On my 300prc origin build, I threw the towel in and I'm buying a 4x32.

That worries me! As I said above, I’m throwing a NX8 2.5-20x on a Rem700 LA. It’s weird guys like Bjorn have as much clearance as they do, and then guys like you have given up because of the eye relief.

To be fair, what's pictured is a savage timberline. However on my origin, it's even worse and I don't want to cut it. I could likely make it work just fine with some modifications but it's a good excuse to pick up a new scope. I also want to try the CF2D SFP reticle.

The 2.5 is in FFP and I worry about close shots around dark or dusk with the MOAR reticle. I know I wouldn't like the 4x32 FFP in that situation. Plus, only the center dot illuminates on the CF2FD which I will like better. Lit up in low light, the full reticle illumination blows out my eyes.

Bump for anymore pics/input about the 2.5-20 on long actions. I really want to try and use one on my 300 NM Vesper build but from the looks of it it may not be possible. I'd probably try the nf ul high height rings.

You can certainly make it work but be prepared to cut and chamfer the rail. The high rings will help as well. The 4x32 would be best and you can likely sell yours and pick up a used 4x32 for only a couple hundred more. I'm positive you'd be happier with that but I understand using what you have as well. Good luck.

Doubtful you are going to be able to run an NX8 2.5-20 on a long action vesper. My 5-25 ATACR is just long enough with the scope set where I like it.

Even when I had a 4-32 NX8 it was barely long enough.

The Vesper is a different beast, but I got the 2.5-20x to work on a Bergara 300 PRC long action, ofc. I went with high NF rings, because I was worried about eye relief, and honestly medium would have worked just fine. IMG_1405.jpeg

Looks like you had a ton of room, interesting. Nice setup 👍
Yeah I had at least another 1/2 inch , maybe 3/4” I could have slid the scope further back. Lots of room. As I said before, I was worried about getting the scope far enough back, and went with the High NF rings. If the bergara stock was adjustable, so I could adjust the cheek rest higher, then it would be properly set up. Right now your face/eye wants to fall a little too low to be perfect. It still filled a few tags without any problem this year though. In my opinion, on a standard rem 700 long action footprint, a 2.5-20x NX8 is absolutely fine for proper eye relief. I know everyone is built different though, you might want to slide the scope back much further than me. It’s also worth noting that I do have a custom bevel cut Murphy Precision rail. That gives me some of the extra room I’ve got.

I know these problems are different than what you’d run into with a Vesper, but I figured I’d throw in on the thread since it’s a 2.5-20x on a long action.
