Advice for ID & WY

Hiya, my hunting partner and I are planning to take 5-6 weeks off next fall for hunting. We are MT residents and will obviously be hunting in MT, but would like to venture to WY & ID. I know that both elk & mule deer tags are available OTC in ID. My question is, what tag is easier to get in WY? Mule deer or elk?

I know In WY for a general elk tag we need to buy a preference point- and then it's still not guaranteed. Are deer tags in Wyoming the same way?
We will be hunting one species in ID & one in WY.

Buy a point right now for wyoming. .they extended the point buying til November I think. ..then if u put in for elk special with 1 point, u should have a damn good chance at general tag elk, which is good throughout a majority of the state. ..I'd say buy preference points for mule deer and start to bank them for future. ..you won't draw any great area in the western portion of the state with 1 point. . Better chance of a big buck otc idaho than in any area that you would draw with 1 point in WY, I believe. ...I was raised in Idaho and have lived in western Wyoming for 5 years now. ..if I was in ur shoes. .I'd be trying for general elk WY/OTC deer idaho. ....but then again I would be to tempted to hunt elk in Idaho I would buy both! !good luck, should be a fun fall no matter
