Good Morning Forum!

I’m thinking about adding muzzle brakes to my Sako Finnlights as I am hunting alone more and more often lately and want to be able to more consistently spot my shots. I have contacted a few gunsmiths in my area (Puget Sound) and have been told by some that it’s doable and by others that my barrel is very thin and it might create problems. Has anyone who has added a muzzle brake to their Finnlight give me some insight on doing it?

thank you!!

If it is thin, consider a clamp on. Get the measurements and they are very good

As others stated, you can put a brake on it. Just have to decide what style.

I've made brakes that shoulder internally instead of externally for very thin barrels. I've also made bushings that shoulder internally for use with larger threaded brakes. Loctite the bushing on and it's there forever. The bushings look nice since you can taper them to blend with the barrel. But you are in for the cost of that extra work plus the brake.

Or a clamp on is a good alternative and probably the most cost effective.

The only advice I'll give is to stick to a smallish sized brake. No, not as effective in mitigating recoil, but you don't want a giant weight added to the end of a thin barrel. The harmonics can get weird.
