Here is a 6 shot group out of my Bergara Wilderness HMR in 6.5 PRC. Load is 147 grain Hornady ELD-M propelled by 57.5 grains H1000. Speed is 2940 FPS

I can rather consistently hit steel targets the size of the vitals of a whitetail out to 500 yards on a cold bore.

The debate has come up with a friend; Is a .81 MOA 6 shot group acceptable for a long range hunting rifle? Today I got 2 shot groups of .32 at 100 and .42 at 300 yards as well on this load.

More shots will answer your question statistically, but I'd have to say you are well on your way to having a positive answer. My only thought is shift your metric from group size to hits relative to point of aim. Accuracy vs. precision..

what does your 10 shot groups look like? and what is the debate? what are they saying is acceptable?

.8MOA at 1000 yards is less than a 10" circle....

Up to you.

Need to know 1) the size of your desired target and 2) how far away you want to be able to hit it.

It is one thing to shoot an elk at 600 yards versus a prairie dog at 600.

Then you have to backtrack for shooting from field positions. That part is always a WAG.

1st shot is all that should matter honestly, and should be setup to what distance you are comfortable with. Maybe a follow up shot but if you do your part, a second shot will not be needed.

You believe if you shot “one shot” ten different days on the same target, that those ten different first shots would be all in one bullet diameter hole?

All day long, my 300wm has a nut lose behind the stock , sometimes I can shoot a .65 group other days it’s a 1moa
sometimes it’s the shooter
