My banish 30 is coming up on 6 years of ownership. I have used it for everything until my AB raptor 8 came in this summer. I finally swapped the reflex to the 3 inch standard barrel and used it for the first time this last week. I had very high hopes for the raptor based on user reviews on here. It’s a fine can and it’s what I’ll primarily use but I don’t hear the “tone” that other people speak of with it. I think I was hoping the reflex would do more than it did.

I know everyone loves to hate on the banish but it is a much quieter can. It has been stuck in 9 inch mode for a year so it’s certainly not apples to apples and being stuck is its own issue but I’ve heard of raptor reflexes getting stuck on too. The weights are pretty similar in 9 inch vs raptor with reflex. With the advantage going to the raptor. Length is obviously substantially more with the banish and it certainly has some design flaws that add unnecessary weight and length but it’s proven to be a repeatably accurate can with above average suppression.

For the tone differences, it helps a lot to be off to the side or even down range in a safe capacity. I have 7 cans and theyre all surprisingly different if youre a bystander. Behind the rifle, not as big as of difference.

Someone once complimented my wolfhunter at a PRS match and until I let them shoot my gun, I thought it sounded just like theirs. Standing to the side, the differences were very obvious.

Not sure it's fair to compare 6" to 9" cans, muzzleforward. My neighbor has a banish 30 and it works but its no where in the same ballpark as my 10 stack raptor from the side by side comparisons ive heard.

I did get side by side with both having others shoot them. The banish was remarked on by several people as being remarkably quiet no comments on the raptor other than its appearance.

Same rifle same load. Different days and shooting area though. It certainly wasn’t what expected at all. The raptor 10 is a more fair comparison. This isn’t me shitting on the raptor, it’s a cool can, more surprised at the exceptional performance of the banish. Ha maybe all the carbon in there is doing some deadening work over the newer raptor.

The problem with the “tone advantage” is that not everyone hears it the same way or reacts the same way. For some people, a higher pitched tone is like nails on a chalkboard. For others, it makes no difference.

What were the rifle specs for your comparison?

Interesting. It's definitely true that perceived sound is different for everyone.

I've never been unhappy with my Banish 30 but to my ear, my AB 10stack without the reflex is much more pleasant to shoot on 18 - 20" creedmoors than the Banish. With the 5 inch reflex it's really nice, but heavy.

I know that baffles matter....8 vs 10. I'd love to hear them ALL side by side with my ears.

Yeah I also need to shoot them in the same environment side by side. One was a pumice pit and the other a canyon. The weight and length advantage of the raptor will make it my hunting can. But the ole banish 30 still has a role when maximum suppression is needed. I think I just expected the raptor to make it completely obsolete.

It’s funny I got into the suppressor game years ago solely for recoil reduction that didn’t make the gun louder. Now I’m finding myself more a maximum suppression guy.
