A quick question about the Cargo Panel

Hey guys, I'm trying to narrow down what set up I want to order with my frame. I'm looking at the cargo panel and the Tahr. Actually I thought I was limited to the 22" frame but now I'm going with the 24" so my options have increased. Might look at the Markhor. My pack will be used for hunting and hiking. I'm an eastern whitetail hunter who hunts a lot out of a climbing stand. The worst part about using the climber for me is carrying the dang thing. I use an older API Grand slam and the straps I have on it are very uncomfortable for me to carry. Are any of you carrying a climbing stand with the cargo panel? I'm hoping to try some new public land spots since I will have the ability to pack a deer out on my back now. If I could carry the climber in a cargo panel I may lean towards that route. One of the places in paticular is a one month archery season hence the need for a climber or I would just rifle hunt on the ground. For hiking I've always used a traditional style pack so thats what I'm comfortable with.

What do ya'll think and does the cargo panel usually cost more in the end than a Tahr or Markhor?
I'm also hoping to get out west in a few years for a mule deer or elk hunt. Thanks

For carrying a tree stand, the Cargo panel is probably your best option. For multi-use, I would go with the Nomad. I used a Nomad for about a year for backpack hunting, and it is a super versatile option.

I can see where the cargo panel would carry a lock on super easy but wasn't sure about how well it fasten down a big climber.
I haven't looked to closely at the nomad. Isn't it the pack with the wings and pockets. I think I might like a simpler design better. Ill give it a look though.

i've messed around with carrying treestands using packs for the last few years and the best move i made in all that time was switching from a summit climber to a lone wolf climber. you have no idea how much easier it is to pack in a stand that folds flat.

I don't have any experience with your tree stand, but I think if either one of them will work then both Nomad and Cargo Panel would work but the Cargo Panel would be cheaper to get into initially by quite a bit. With Nomad, you would need a Grab It also. The one really cool thing about both those packs and especially the Cargo Panel is it's modularity! You could piece it together over time! I run a Nomad and my wife has Cargo Panel and sometimes I really wish I had gotten one too and sometimes I'm happier with my Nomad.

I carried my summit viper all season with the cargo panel and guide lid. The guide lid has my kill kit, snacks, snivel gear and goes into the stand with me. The climber gets carried in the cargo panel and rides like a dream. Its super quick to get in and out of the cargo panel, however it isnt the most quiet but if you take your time with the buckles its not that bad. The only thing that i worried about was the V notch of the climber wearing on the cargo panel so i put a piece of foam from an old sleeping pad between the two. It probably would be fine but id rather be safe than sorry.

Cargo panel will carry anything, only limitation is your imagination.

If your going to get a cargo panel and bag, I would get the argali. The cargo panel will be all you need in the east coast. Get a few pockets and a large side pocket and you cargo panel is the best daypack out there, you can then switch the pockets over to the Argali. One set of pockets for two setups.

I ended up ordering the grab-it, camp bag and guid lid for my day setup. Also ordered the Argali for my main bag.
I'll carry the empty camp bag until I drop camp off. Then I'll ditch the Argali and convert to the camp bag for day mode.
I haven't got my setup yet, it should ship by the end of the month.

I have packed several treestands and ladder systems with a cargo panel. It works great. However, keep in mind that you can starp almost anything to the frame with just conpression straps.

After jumping around the last couple of years to a ton of different packs, finally decided I would bite the bullet and go with Kifaru. Ordered the new tactical frame and cargo panel in coyote, and a large belt pocket for on back of the panel in wolf grey (always nervous about having a completely brown pack on my back here in Wisconsin- too many "if it's brown, it's down" types). Anyways, like aclawrence, hoping to haul treestands to get to some more remote public pieces for whitetail. At some point I'll add a guide lid and probably a camp bag, and some pouches here and there as necessary. I can't imagine not being able to do just about anything with this set up.

While I'm here, anyone have pics of wolf grey pockets/pouches on coyote brown?

If you are really worried about getting shot, I understand that too, Colorado has rifle and muzzle loader seasons right in the middle of archery elk season, just get a blaze orange handkerchief and attach it to the pack on the back! That's what we do! I'd really like to see somebody market a lightweight blaze orange stretchy thing to put on a pack that's easy to unhook to allow access to the pack!

Thanks for all the responses guys. Let's see, It looks like the cargo panel will work for my needs I've just never used anything like it before. I haven't really though about buying the CP and another bag. I think I would prefer the normal bag for camping. I've looked at the Nomad and for some reason I'm not really attracted to that set up. I'm sure it works great for some of you. My brother does have a Lone Wolf climber that he never uses so that would probably be a better option for what I'm wanting to do. With the climber folding flat I might could carry it with a regular bag. Just for kicks, how do ya'll think it would work if I stuck the flat Lone Wolf climber between the bag and the frame like using a meat shelf? Or compressing the bag down and resting the Lone Wolf in a grab it. I'm just trying to think about all my options before I start ordering stuff. At this point I think the cargo panel will definitely work for me. If the normal bag would work though I would be looking at just buying one system instead of two. Hmmm, decisions decisions.

A dry bag or a camp bag added to the CP and you are set for camping.

Thanks for the link, that's close to what I'd like, but in a perfect world it would be about as long as my pack and have quick disconnects on top!

Hey oldgoat, I am the founder of Orange Aglow and just saw your message. What kind of panel length are you looking for? Here is a picture of the Large Glow Panel on a Kuiu 6000 pack. It stretches out quite a bit in any direction, plus you have three inches of velcro on both the top and the bottom to work with:

Also, what kind of quick disconnects would you like to see on the panel? The current velcro tabs are pretty quick.
