Started looking for a way to have some more crossover with my rifles. After Hawkins announced they had a AICS compatable “hunter” BM I started to look at AICS conversions. I’ve used them before but never liked the size and placement of the mag release. I also don’t mind the OEM magazine protrusion on the tikka mags.
Hawkins claims their bm is proprietary to their inlet so I ordered the redsnake tactical short action bottom metal (claimed as an oem drop in w/ just a little relief of the mag well) and a MDT SA flush magazine.
It took about 10 minutes with a flat file to relieve the mag well for the larger magazine and the BM really dropped right into the oem inlet on my alterra stock.
Works excellent with the aforementioned MDT and AI AICS magazines I had on hand.
Pictured with 6mm cm and 108 bergers. It fed ~120 rounds flawlessly
The only knock and this will just take some training time to get used to is the release is in the trigger guard and a few times I reached first for the typical tikka front of magazine release
