I got a Tikka 300 WSM and it is a fabulous rifle. Also lightweight, and kicks like a mule. 300 is overkill for deer and antelope. Works wonders on elk, particularly at longer distances. Go the heaviest you can shoot well. That said, 6.5, 270, 7-08, 30-06, 308, 7mm, and 300 are all proven rounds that will put elk on the ground, if you hit them square. My first elk was with a 25-06 at 350 yards.
