Question for those of you who run 8x binos. Are you putting these on a tripod to glass and then switching to your 15x or spotter when you want a closer look? I’m trying to figure out the best setup for my western hunts.

I use 8’s for quick looks and 12/15’s for glassing most of the time, but 8’s on a tripod will do more than a lot of people think.

I use them a ton from the tripod. The “perfect” use case for 8x in my opinion is when there is thicker brush and more broken terrain and the distance you are looking is 1000 yards and less. The wider FOV of 8x is an advantage when deer are moving in and out of cover and you want to be able to catch that movement within your FOV.

I’ll usually (but not always) have 15s with me in that case for getting a closer look and occasionally to dissect terrain that is a little farther away or harder to see into.

My 8.5x are on my chest. Always carry a tripod. Use them on the tripod a lot and they are soo good. Depending on the nature of the hunt, my 15s are in my pack or my spotter is in my pack. Very rarely do I have both the 15x and the spotter. It is almost always an "either/or" for me. This year, I have some 12x as well. I will have to see where they fit into my regular rotation. Likely, they will be used more often than the 15x from my initial impressions.
