88 TMK Loading Thread

I shot 4 88tmk loads from a 20" 22 creed rechambered tikka 22-250. This barrel seems to show pressure signs sooner than others I've been around. I copied and pasted my notes below. All loads need backed off slightly for this barrel.

40.5 n160 heavy bolt 3113avg (left 4 shots)
43gn h1000 slightly heavy bolt 3078 avg
36gn h4350 slightly heavy bolt 2947 avg
42.5gn magpro slightly heavy bolt 2933 avg

He has mentioned before that he is downloading to better match quick drop.
He’s shooting the same powder at the same charges as the rest of us.
For 22cm on this thread:
My 16” barrel with 43.5gr H1000 was 2930’s.
His 18” barrel with 43.0gr was 2718.

Something doesnt add up.
He’s getting great accuracy, and hitting the target velocity he wanted.
But I have no way of explaining mechanically why his gun is so much slower then we would expect.
That’s all.

I dunno. My Garmin has produced speeds that true out with no MV correction.

I have another barrel I can put on.

I've loaded 48gr H1000 with no pressure with 95tmk and figured the load data was just low on that chart for the 90gr we have.

It’s all good, and I don’t mean to make a big deal out of it.

At the end of the day, you’re shooting excellent groups, and hitting your velocity goal for QD. Nothing needs changed.

I just wish I could explain why your barrel puts out the numbers that it does. But that’s a me thing.

22 Arc. 18” 7 twist barrel. Alpha brass. Fed 205 primer. Loaded at about .035 of jump.

Tested for pressure signs up to 31.5 gr. Really didn’t see any signs of high pressure.

Edit : 3 shots at each load testing pressure
30.5 gr : 2950 fps
31 gr : 3028 fps
31.5 gr : 3050 fps

KyleR1985 asked about jumping the bullet .100. I used starline brass and downloaded a little. Here is that group.

Tested for pressure up to 31.5 gr. Started getting tension on bolt lift at 31 grains.

Edit : 3 shot groups testing pressure
30.5 gr : 2915 FPS
31 gr : 2970 fps (pressure signs)
31.5 gr : 3025 fps (pressure signs)

Im happy to see some 22 arc data! Im gonna be working up a load for a 16" arc with these and anything close to those speeds and it will be plenty for ky whitetail hunting. Just waiting on a rokstok lite to go back up for order

Here's Staball 6.5.

Went for max load from Hornady data but the dropper was either too high or too low so went with 40.8gr.

Sierra 88gr TMK
18" PBB 7.5 twist
40.8gr Staball 6.5 3050 fps

I think the accuracy is fine; it's gusting and shifty here. No pressure.

I think that barrel is broken. The .223 guys are getting almost the same speeds.
I wonder if the 18" barrel isn't burning all the powder.

I found some data from my other 18" barrel (PVA) from last summer and the numbers are similar for H1000. Didn't try Staball HD because I didn't have any at the time.

Dunno, my 18" is over 3000fps with 88gr TMK /Grand and 80gr ELDM/H4350. H1000 looks like it should have decent speed..
