I know this is somewhat subjective....

Do you prefer an 8” boot or a 10” boot? Really interested in Elk hunting( walking a lot, random load pack outs, etc.)..... What are your reasons?

Not a direct answer to the question, but, Personally, I’ve never seen a need for a boot taller than 6 inches for mountain hunting. 8-10 inch boots don’t dry out as efficiently due to less air flow and are a bit of a PITA to take off and on quickly, especially getting up in the night to piss where you just want to slide your feet in and out quickly. That being said, it’s largely personal preference and a lot of guys from a military background like the taller boots since that’s what they are used to, but I’m not really sure there’s actually any additional support offered from these taller boots since they have to be soft enough to flex with the ankle and foot anyway.

My only pair of "real" boots are 10". At this point I'm not sure what the appeal was vs the 8" model of the same when I purchased them. At any rate, I really like the tall boot, but the next boots I'll buy will also be shorter just to experiment. Though they will be boots for a different purpose so not an apples-to-apples comparison.

If I'm crossing creeks that are 6 or 7 inches deep, I like a 10 inch boot to make sure my feet don't get wet.
Other than that, I don't like carrying extra weight on my feet.

Depends whether you have ankles that roll or not. I rolled mine about 2 months back and now feel more comfortable in 10s. Probably a lot of peace of mind tho.

I like a taller boot. My main reasoning is a little more height to get across a creek with dry feet. Also more likely to have dry feet if you accidentally step in a squishy spot

I like 10's, but you could go 8's and wear gaiters. I like the 10's just to help keep junk out of my socks.

Both.
7-8 for the more open terrain that's dryer and want lighter.
And if snow or a ton of brush that's gonna beat up ur shins 10s

I really like a 10” boot over an 8” or a 6”.

I have both 6 inch and 10 inch boots. They both have their place, but I prefer the taller, stiffer boot in steep, rocky country or when conditions are wet. Never found a pair of 8 inch boots I liked, the height feels odd to me. The 6s are nice when it’s hot and I’ll be covering a lot of ground quickly.

Other than extra ankle support, 6" boots and goretex gaiters will provide more benefits than 10" boots without.
They are lighter, easier on/off, and they are cooler in hot weather.
