Hello….I have used this site for a long time now to gain information. I finally decided to join.

I currently have a Tikka Roughtech in 7 PRC. I bought it as soon as it hit the rack at my local gun shop. Now that they’ve been out for a little while,I’m not seeing spectacular results on videos, and in other discussion groups. At least not what I want and expect from a Tikka. None of the results have been from my particular model.

I have yet to shoot my rifle,so I may be just jumping the gun, but. I’m considering selling or trading off mine before I shoot it,so I can try and get the most out of it. I usually will tinker with them a while before switching.

Before the 7prc I was considering a 280AI,but ultimately chose the PRC because Tikka doesn’t offer anything in 280. Now that I’m considering something else that offers both what would I lose (if anything) going 280? Either one is plenty for anything I will ever hunt, deer and black bear is probably the biggest two things I will ever shoot with it.

You haven’t shot it and some guys on YouTube are not liking it so you want dump it? Give it a fair chance to work. Yes, Hornady ammo is slow. The federal eld x hit numbers easy. My hand loads aren’t hot at all and I have fantastic numbers out of a 20” barrel. It doesn’t matter to me but you bought the gun at least try it.

Not just watching YouTube, but you’re probably right. I haven’t completely lost faith in it I’m just playing with ideas at the moment.

Whatever sold you on the cartridge in the first place is still there, at least give it a try. The perceived problems arose when the factory ammo was getting a couple hundred feet per second less than advertised. The cartridge sleuths discovered that the cartridge was developed around one powder, RL-26 I believe of which the supply evaporated overnight it appears. I don't know if this was resolved or not. If you have access to a chronograph, shoot over it to check your velocities if you try it.The 7 PRC will do everything the 280AI will do but better, especially shooting the high BC heavy for caliber bullets it was designed for. I neither own nor plan on buying a 7PRC btw so not a fan boy or hater. Good luck with your decision.
