7PRC or stay with 6.5PRC

Nice. Have a 300prc and just got a 6.5, was wondering if I should have went with the 7.
Nope, that’s a good combination. As you can tell by this thread, there’s not enough difference between a 6.5 and 7 under most instances. The 300 and 6.5 is a nice spread.

No problem. They are both great cartridges. I will always have a 7mm PRC in my safe as it does in a factory round using the 180 ELDM what my custom barreled 300WM does using a hot handloaded 215 Berger at 1000 yards. The 180 has 6" less drift and has just under 100# of energy less than the 215 does with less powder and less recoil. I'll use those rifles for the days we are sitting in an ambush position and longer shots are standard. For days when I'm hiking all day or working the timber, I'll be carrying one of my 6.5 PRC or a 6mm bullet launchers. Seems like to further I practice shooting, the closer my shot opportunities come. I haven't shot anything past 500 yards in 10 years but my tags still get filled.

Just curious, what are you pushing the 215 at?

The PRC’s are working with similar bullet weights of one step up in caliber of the traditional cartridges. 300 PRC more similar to 338 wm, 7 PRC similar to 30 cal mag, 6.5 PRC similar to traditional 7 rem mag (or at least 270 win). At least at longer distances, the higher BC’s (and SD’s) are letting the PRC’s deliver perhaps better performance.

As I wrap my head around them, these equivalences are becoming clear to me. The 300 has become a special purpose round (for a different reason than the 338), the 7 is undoubtedly plenty, and the 6.5 is proving itself as undeniably enough for anything in NA as a 270 or 7 mag.

One could go another step and recognize the 6 creedmoor as earning a reputation just as the 25’s did. We all know folks who shot their obscure 257 Roberts or 25-06’s but never felt they needed more.
