7prc factory ammo

So long story short I finally purchased a chronograph and was able to get some speeds on my ammo. I’m shooting a seekins element 7 prc with 22” barrel. Shooting the Hornady factory eldx I was getting around 2780. I know Hornady 7 prc has been well document as slower than advertised. But I’m wondering are there other factory ammo offerings in that 170-180grain range I could try to see if I can up the speed a bit? Anyone have real life speeds on federal ammo? Or should I consider going with a custom manufacturer like Choice?

Thanks in advance.

There are a bunch of post on this already. But, Federals is running to their posted velocity or even a little faster.

Lots of threads detailing this, but yeah, federal is where it's at.

Expect 22" Barrel and federal 175 ELD-X in the low to mid 2900s and terminal ascents higher.

Barnes is the fastest in my tests but it is a 160. I’ve had it in the 3040 range out of my 22” alpine ct. (ignore the average as I was testing other loads alongside it)
The federal eld-x 175 averaged 2955 out of the same barrel 1738528225766.png

Federal, I will never use Hornady ammo ever again. I listened to the podcast on the 7prc they swear you'll get 3000 fps with there ammunition out of a 22inch barrel. I was getting a 2800 average switched to federal and hitting 2980 as an average.

I understand the issues where they had to change powders, but they should aso change the fps on the box, or stop selling the ammunition if they cant live up to there promises. We should not be paying the same price with different results.

I have been using the Federal with 175 ELDX function testing new builds for my customers. The last two boxes were 2870-2940 in four different rifles. Accuracy is real good as well.

Federal ELD-X is the sweet spot for my 24" Ruger Hawkeye 7mm PRC. Runs right at 2990 fps.
They are getting exceptionally hard to find though. Seems like Federal halted production of their 7mm PRC ammo with the introduction of the 7BC.

I have a couple of boxes of federal eld-x 175g if anyone wants a deal. They were pretty hot out of my defiance action and 18in barrel @ 2,936fps. I blew a few primers out. I’m sticking to Hornady.

I was getting 2840 from an early lot of hornady and a recent box of Federal out of a 20" Bartlein. I think Federal is running r26.

The factory Federal was seated much deeper than the hornady.

I have some Barnes 160 LRX's to hand load coming and wondering if you are getting good accuracy???

I have heard the they are using RL26 in the Federal loads.
Consensus is that’s what Hornady was using initially to get to 3k fps but ran into supply issues and changed to something else. Wonder why Federal can still use it in their current production?

I am ashamed to admit it but this will require another range trip for me to answer… dummy me rushed my scope mounting and it was loose, resulting in poor groups.
I am sure no one else here has done that, but this goober hastily swapped scopes and didn’t do my normal routine… which basically cost me over $100 in ammo from that range trip without gaining any meaningful info aside from velocity! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Because Federal and Alliant powders are the same company.
