Has anyone shot 7prc ELD-X Hornady vs Federal side by side?
My new rifle is ready and id like to go with ELD-X
Seems like some people reporting that Federal is slightly higher velocities and more consistent?
If anyone shot both please share your results
Thanks

I’ve shot both, Hornady was slower avg 2776 fps with a higher ES mid 50s if I recall, groups were good though. Federal avg 2883 fps with ES in the low 30s and groups .5-75 moa.

Either would do, but I’ll take the better groups which just so happens to be faster as well

If you read some of the other threads, it seems Hornady rounds are pretty inconsistent in relation to velocity. Given those choices, I think I'd go with Federal until Hornady goes back to consistency or buy a lot of Hornady rounds to last you a long while.

Yea I’m not as worried about Hornady being lil slower if groups were better.
But seems like federal is consistent and still groups well.
I may just have to get 2boxes of each and go hit the range to test side by side.

That’s what I did, bought a box of everything I could find. Both hornady loads I tried grouped well, the federal just grouped better.
I also tried the nosler 175gr ablr and those had good speed but terrible groups, averaged over 2.3moa for my best group

By chance did you try Hornady CX??
I like the idea of copper. But they just didn’t group well for me in other rifles

I didn’t, I use to shoot a lot of all copper bullets but was never a fan of the way they killed. Sometimes you would get quick kills but for the most part they would be on their feet for longer than I liked so I don’t even try them anymore.
If you’re interested in copper, I hear Barnes is coming out with 7prc ammo loaded with LRX bullets which would be my choice if I wanted to shoot copper

I wouldn't even waste money on the Hornady ammo if I were you. Usually that's about the best ammo you can find in any cartridge but they totally screwed the pooch on the 7PRC.

Get a box of federal and if it shoots get more. If you really want Hornady I have a bunch I'll sell you

CX hasn’t shot well in any rifle I have seen.

o wow thanks for sharing,
i've had poor results with CMX (before they changed to CX) in last rifle i tried .270 win
but my friend's shot amazing sub-moa groups with CMX, (he shoots tikka)

as much as i like idea of copper, i'm pretty certain that i'll stick with ELD-X, its a hard to beat projectile. works well at short and long distances.
so Federal ELD-X it is for now, but i'll be interested in trying Barnes LRX copper ammo once it become available.
thanks guys.

My Tikka 7 PRC shoots Hornady eld x at 2878 out of a 24" barrel and shoots about a 4-5" 100 yd. group using Hornady CX. Got a box of Federal eld x to try.

Done with Precision Hunter for now. SD higher and avg 2930 with 24” barrel and suppressed on the Hornady. Same 175 ELDX bullet with Federal is 3010avg and better standard deviation. I’m just more accurate with them. Hopefully it doesn’t change much between batches.

went to the range with a friend. we both had new 7prc rifles (diff actions). both using 22" carbon proof barrels +suppressed(diff brand cans) but having same barrel type made for a very good side by side comp.
I shot Federal ELD-X 175gr
buddy shot Hornady ELD-X 175gr

GOOD News: both rifles show very well, sub-moa. ELD-X's are just that good.

my rifle: Federal ELD-X *(very first 3 shots through new barrel were the slowest and then it sped up)
Average speed: 2,941.4 fps
Highest/Lowest speed: 2,903fps / 2,970fps *(take out very fist 3 slow shot and lowest speed was: 2,931fps)

Hornady ELD-X
Average speed: 2781.2 fps

Highest/Lowest speed: 2,810.4 fps / 2,752.8 fps

we did Swap Ammo 1 round each to see if its the rifle/barrel, but numbers followed the brand of ammo pretty closely.
Hornady ELD-X through my rifle clocked 2,820.9 fps
Federal ELD-X through buddy's rifle clocked 2,961.6 fps

again: both Hornady and Federal grouped sub-moa, i'll say my buddy shot a little better than me.
but if you're looking for most speed go with Federal.

I have shot both ...I prefer federal premium for a couple reasons..the main reason is because hornady shit the pot with the precision hunter lieing about the box velocity..I've chrono both and I was lucky to reach 2850 with hornady..so I called and they said yeah before the Ukraine war they were using reloaded 26 but not not able to get as of now so they changed powder witch shoot a slower velocity.ok fine and dandy but do yall plan on changing the boxes ..there response was maby at end of year but not to worried bout it as of now...well that was enough for me...federal is as close to 3k as your gonna get and very consistent and more accurate...ALSO bought a new box of federal fusion tipped 7 prc and no joke my first 3 shot group was 1 ragged hole...2nd group I rushed cause I was excited and didn't let barrel cool so I shot a 1.25 inch group...so to be fair I will shoot another group to confirm..but I'm very proud of what federal has accomplished and steadly putting out quality stuff...now we just need the terminal ascent back in stock 🤣

First picture is Federal premium eld 7 prc 175 gr....the other 1 ragged hole is Federal new fusion tipped 175 gr ...my rifle is a browning xbolt pro carbon fiber in 7 prc for anyone wondering great stuff for factory ammo.

Picked up another rifle in 7PRC, this time a browning x-bolt 2 spr. Shot it today with the remaining hornady 180 ELD-M, and Nosler 175 ABLR’s plus the Federal 175 ELD-X. Hornady averaged 2701 fps and shot about a 1.5 mos group for 8 shots (all I had left) Nosler averaged 2738 fps and just like the other rifle shot terrible, 2.5-3 moa group and the federal was 2780 fps and shot a 1.4 moa 10 shot group which I’m quite ok with.
