I just getting into rifle reloading and it seems like all the best powders I come across are hard to find. For example all the Alliant Reloder powder is difficult to find and many of the IMR powders in my reloading manual are discontinued.

What should I start with that is readily available?

H1000, Retumbo, maybe some VV N565 or N570. I think Natchez has almost all of that in stock right now. Or try your LGS to save on hazmat and just try a lb of each. Have you done much research on the method you want to use to test and verify your load?

Another vote for H1000, Retumbo, Ramshot Grand, Ramshot Magnum, Magpro, N560, N565 or 4831. Any of those are right in the wheelhouse for most any bullet weight.

Thanks for the input. H1000 and Retumbo are two I was wondering about. Sounds like other have had good results. I plan on starting with 160gr Sierra Match Kings for target shooting and Either Barnes TSX 160 or Nosler Accubond 160 for hunting.

I'm not seeing a lot of 7828 availability. I will have to check my LGS.

7828 has been discontinued.

Is this a factory chambered rifle?

planning to use 160gr bullets. It’s a Tikka Tx3 superlite
You won't get the best velocities with H1000. My suggestion would be start with Ramshot Grand or Staball HD. Both of those powders are very temp stable and produce top end velocities.

If magazine length allows it start your seating depth 20 or 30k off the lands.

H1000 in my 7mm RM's. There is slightly more fps to be had with other powders at times, but not enough to be paradigm shifting, and the H1000 is generally pretty easy to dial in.

Lot of really good powders for heavy bullets in overbore cartridges these days.

Echo what others have said H1000 and Retumbo. Really wanna try N560 just to compare, maybe the next barrrel.

I use to have a tikka 7RM that thing shot everything well. Good luck
