7mm prc

Looking at getting 7mm prc, really looking at Seekins PH3 havak! Wanted to see if anyone had any experience with it? Or anyone have another rifle brand that they like in that caliber. That shoots sub moa! Trying to stay under 2000. Thanks!

Should be fine choice. None of them are going to shoot sub MOA day in and day out with any large shot count, so don’t expect that realistically. Also depends what ammo you decide to shoot or if you’re going to reload for it to actually cater to what the gun wants.

A number of people have reported issues getting factory ammo that shoots well in their rifle.

For me, I won’t buy any rifle where “cheap ammo” is $50/box, unless I plan to reload for it.

I also have yet to find a good reason to get a 7 PRC instead of a 6.5 PRC. And since I already own a .270… I don’t need that either.

Seekins are fine rifles as long as it fits into your hopes/dreams/desires. Same for what ever cartridge you decide to shoot.

I have a PH3 in 7 PRC. 26 inch barrel. Barnes LRX factory ammo shoots sub MOA for me. Also shot steel from 200 out to 500 with first shot impacts each time. I’ve been pleased with it. Recoil is very manageable.

I have not since I’m a big fan of Barnes and have used them pretty much exclusively in other rifles. No concerns. Bolt is slick. 60 degree throw is awesome. Extraction is effortless. On the heavy side but that’s good and bad depending on how you look at it. Good for recoil. Not so good for backcountry type hunts.

Sako has the 7PRC in the new Finnlight and so far I’m very impressed with accuracy and then new stock design is actually pretty solid. More of a vertical grip, flat forend, and factory QDs, plus the mags are so good in the Sakos. The new ejectors really throw brass (not sure I love that, but I didn’t have the 85 issues that some had).

My son in law shoots a new X-Bolt in 7PRC, it has done very well for him. Accurate rifle.

Pretty simple-

Pick one with Min of 1-8 twist
Then look at which ever you can cut barrel down to 18” and thread 5/8

Then get load work up pack from unknown or copper creek. Figure it out and then order 200rds.

Yep..... I bought a PH3 7PRC, 22in barrel back in August to replace a Weatherby 307 that had heat related barrel accuracy issues.

I hand load and have been shooting 180gr Scenar-L OTM bullets @ 2810 fps. Accuracy has been very good with max being 600yds so far. Due to time constraints and a now past elk hunt, I needed the easy button so once I had 1/2moa groups, I stopped load development. I haven't hit pressure yet so should be able to increase velocity.

Super happy with my Ph3 - 7PRC.

Loves ELDM 180, 5 shot groups avg around .6. But it hate precision hunter 175 ELDx - avg 1.8” 5 shot group.

Haven’t shot barns but I have some. Used Norma Bondstrike on an Aoudad hunt a few weeks ago, likes that too, and get about 3/4 MOA. Took the guy at 350yds no problem. I am confident as it breaks in it will be 1/2 MOA.

I’ve posted my velocities in the 7PRC ammo thread. Interesting that when it gets hot - 10+ shots over a few mins, suppressed it starts to show ejector swipes, I’ve only done that with the ELDM 180s.

I wouldn’t hesitate to take this rifle anywhere, I like the weight and steel barrel.

I own the Havak Element M3 in 7PRC. My 10 round groups are typically 1.3-1.5 inches at 100 with 180 ELD-Ms. It’s shot sub-moa 3 shot groups at 804 yards and in when I can get perfect range conditions. It killed a pronghorn at 383 yards and 300 yards, and a coyote at 482 yards and 286 yards so far. The 180 ELD-M has been devastating and my first dip into hunting with match bullets.

I will admit when I bought it, I was a little disappointed that the 5-10 shot groups weren’t sub-moa, but as @huntnful stated, I don’t think that is realistic in a lightweight magnum, or is very rare. I can consistently shoot .3-.4 MOA 5 shot groups with my Christensen 6.5Creed for reference.

I posted this on the 7MM PRC ammo thread and copying over here in case it helps anyone...

I just picked up the new Seekins PH3 7mm PRC and went to the range to test ammo. My local Scheels was out of Hornady ELD-X 175 so I settled on a couple of boxes of Federal Premium Terminal Ascent 170 Grain. Based on Hornady concerns and lack of consistency documented on multiple forums, maybe this was a blessing in disguise to focus on Federal only.
Details: PH3 7 PRC, 22", Omega Suppressor
Here are the results:

• Shots: 20
• Average MV: 2979.9 fps
• Min: 2966.5 fps
• Max: 3007.6 fps
• Extreme Spread (ES): 41.1 fps
• Standard Deviation (SD): 12.0 fps

This was overall better than expected and better velocity than what is listed on the box. (2950 fps)
I was very rushed at the end and with a hot barrel and can along with mirage effect in the scope...
shots 18 -20 grouped at .5 MOA.
Summary: Love the PH3 so far (40 rounds at the range) and the Federal TA 170 grain is a winner for me.

Do most folks not care about a locking bolt? As a rifle designed by mountain hunters for the mountain hunters I thought this was a big miss for Seekins. They put a ton of thought into this so seems like must have been intentional and maybe I’m the odd one? I’ve had a bolt come open before when strapped to pack, I think must have caught on something so having the bolt locked when on safe seems like a feature that I really like. I don’t carry with a round in the chamber but still didn’t like looking back and seeing my bolt hanging down with the action open.
