7mm PRC recommendations

Looking at getting a new rifle in 7 prc. Thinking a 22" barrel and fairly lightweight with plans to add a suppressor. I'm currently looking at weatherby 307 and Bergara Carbon Wilderness Ridge. Does anyone have any experience with either of these or have a better recommendation in the 2k range? I've put hands on the Bergara but the 307 is not in stock anywhere near here. Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks

I’d stay away from the 7 PRC all together and get something smaller in a tikka. I was unhappy with my 7 prc the recoil was significant with a suppressor and it was much less enjoyable to shoot than my smaller calibers. 6.5 prc, 6.5 creed or a 243 would all kill anything in North America.

I know they aren’t super popular on here, but I have a Christensen. Their new Modern Carbon Rifle (MCR) and am very happy with it. I think it’s 6.7lbs with scope rail vs 6.1lbs with the weatherby. I run a brake which I know is different from a suppressor but to me recoil is pretty minimal. My gun is just shy of 10lbs fully loaded.

If you’re dead set on the 7 PRC, I would recommend waiting until spring and buying one of these…

Uh oh. Be careful announcing on Rokslide that you shoot a brake. You might get crucified. No one will hunt with you let alone even shoot around you.

Check out the thread on the Weatherby 307 Alpine CT. Still breaking mine in, but initial results are very promising for a 6ish pound rifle in the sub 2k price range.

Very happy with my Christensen Arms Ridgeling FFT. 7mm PRC, 22" Barrel that now has a 7" suppressor on it. It shoots Federal 175 ELD-X MOA and does better with several other reloads. Had my hands on a Seekins Havak PH2 but just could not deal with the extended magazine. The CA just flattened this Wyoming cow elk.

^^^ Second this. I'm getting good performance with factory 180 eld-m's. Also nice with the 22" barrel that with my suppressor still isn't too long. Worked to perfection on my wyoming bull this year.

I have a 7prc in a C/A Ridgeline FFT Ti and it weighs just over 5 lbs bare with the factory Ti brake. It shoots factory Hornady Eld-x and Eld-m just under 1" and it's not broke in yet. NF 5.5-22x50 scope.

I have the same rifle in 308 Winchester at 5 lbs and that rifle shoots several factory loadings into 1/2" and it's also not broke in yet. Thats with a Leupold 3-9x40 scope too...LOL.

No issues with either C/A rifle.

7PRC and hunt just about any animal anywhere on the planet and at long ranges with the power level necessary.

Reserve the tiny calibers for the kids and women...or the guys with the man-buns.

The only hunting I want to do with a 10 lb rifle is from the back of a Land Cruiser in Africa with a 470 Nitro or 505 Gibbs.

Definitely look at Seekins Havak. I use my 7PRC for everything from deer on up. Recoil isn't as bad as others put it to be. I hate recoil and the 7PRC is fine. My favorite all around ammo is Federals 170gr Terminal Ascent. It is very accurate out of my rifle and performs very well on game.

What is your level of experience with shooting lighter wt magnum rifles? A light wt 7 PRC is probably gonna have a significant recoil. I have shot a 7 rem mag for decades, but my rifle is heavy. Something to consider.

I have the Weatherby Range XP in 7PRC and love it. Very accurate with Federal 170gr TA's and even more accurate with loads provided by Unknown Munitions in the Hornady 175gr ELD-X. My only complaint is the forend on the stock is flimsy but I purchased a KRG Bravo stock to improve on this. Action is smooth as well. I upgraded the radial brake to a UM 4 port brake and the recoil is minimal. I could shoot that gun all day long. If you opt for the Range XP, it's at a lower price point and affords you to do some customization if you want and still have a long range killer at an affordable price.

The Alpine CT is 6.1 pounds bare, mine with scope is 8# even. Recoil is incredibly manageable. Even 50-60 rounds at an outing is not at all uncomfortable. (Except for my wallet )

When the 307 first came out, they had feeding issues in the 7 PRC from the magazine. Have any of yall had any issues, or just by them switching to a different mag, did that fix the issue? Thanks

They went with the metal magazine in lieu of the polymer mag. I've had no feed issues. All 307 in 7PRC ships now with the metal mag.

I've definitely been looking at that rifle. I like the weight. It sucks cause nobody around here has a 307 in stock to put hands on. The Bergara was actually pretty sweet to me but it seems like a lot of people on rokslide are against them
