Im looking to buy a new rifle. I already have a 7mm rem mag, 243 winchester. Im wanting to get a new rifle. Ive been thinking a 7mm-08 will work perfect for what i need. I reload for my 7 rem mag already and have alot of bullets bought up. Should I consider a .308 or another cartridge? I really like the tikkas im seeing and want one in laminate stainless but not seeing them in 7mm-08. Just looking for input and suggestions thanks.

I would get a 7mm08 before a .308, but both are fine cartridges. I understand the appeal of having the same caliber for bullets, but if they don’t have that available in what you want, I would consider a 6.5mm option. I just ordered a very reasonably priced Sauer 6.5 CM from EuroOptic. And I believe they have some good deals on Tikka 6.5mm rifles as well.

Here’s a solid option in 7mm08:

And another one:

If going with the Tikka in 7mm-08 and want the Lam/SS, you might have to do what we’ve done a couple of times as the 7-08 isn’t as readily available as the .308. Buy the caliber and swap out the stock. The factory laminate does come up available for sale at times or you could go with a Boyd’s. Last deal I made with a friend was I wanted a SS/fluted so bought the Hunter model on closeout at EO and sold my friend the wooden stock to offset the cost of my preferred stock. Only issue is if you get the synthetic stock it’s not gonna give you much of an offset.

Thats what ive been thinking about doing myself. I wonder if the boyds stocks are as nice as the tikka laminate?

I had a Boyd’s, it’s a really nice stock but I have not handled a factory Tikka laminate so couldn’t say if it’s comparable or not. The Boyd’s was over 40oz if I remember correctly? The factory synthetic is around 28oz.

It’s fairly easy to get where you want to be since the Tikka T3x stocks interchange regardless of caliber in the Lite series. We have swapped wood, synthetic, B&C and carbon stocks between several different rifles even after bedding.
