7mag bullet?

Just picked up a 7mag as my new western rifle.
I'm looking for bullet suggestions. This rifle will be used mostly for deer. Maybe and elk.
I know I want to use a monolithic.
Looking at barnes ttsx, nosler Etip, or hammer. Really looking at weight sugestions.
I know with monos they say run them light and fast. But how light is too light. Obviously a lighter bullet isn't going to hold its velocity for ever, so whats a good middle ground.
Most of.my shots or 300 yards or less. But there's always a chance that I'll need maybe 6 or 700 yards.

If your rifle has the 1-9.25 twist rate something outta the Barnes line in the 140 offerings would be plenty. I tried the 168 LRX and even though it shot around a inch at 100 they were “key holing” from lack of stability. Loading your own? Or factory ammo?

What twist? I use the 140 TTSX in my Tikka with 9.5 twist. 600 yds is about max for adequate velocity to expand according to Barnes.

I use a Hornady 154 sst in my tikka for both elk and deer

Twist rate is 9.5 and I will be loading my own. 600 is probably the farthest I would even attempt. 600 yards is a lot different in the field with an animal in front of you then on the range. I was leaning towards the 140gr.

In my 280 AI I'm loading the Barnes 145 LRX and so far on paper I'm liking the results, I've been very happy with Barnes bullets in all the other rifles I load for.

160 accubond...pretty easy to get to 3k fps, holds together well near and far. Try them if your rifle doesn't like monos.

Have had great luck with 168 berger vld. Probably killed 15 deer and 10 antelope in the last 3 years. And 3 elk. They are a little much for antelope but just aim off the shoulder and no meat loss

Big fan of the 160 accubonds as well. Now shooting Barnes 140 TTSX with good success.
