So my Dad turns 70 within the next month. I am having a hard time of what to do or get him. His birthday falls in late August, when my daughters golf season is in full swing. So going somewhere is sorta off the table for the moment. But its my Father, who taught me how to hunt and basically do everything. He doesnt hunt anymore as he cant really doesnt handle the cold too well. He shoots a little off and on and collects knives, as I gift them to him. LOL. I mean most 70yr olds can buy and do what they want at this point. He doesnt need anything and for the last several years for christmas and birthdays, I basically get him what I would like to have! LOL.. Any ideas, suggestions, thoughts? Thanks.

Obviously a budget is in mind.

Consider writing him a note (typed and signed is OK if your handwriting is illegible) identifying the patterns/behaviors/values that he instilled in you that you appreciate and/or are also trying to pass down in your family as legacy. Then identify some things about him right now that you appreciate in your life. Letting an older person know they’re wanted in your life is probably one of the best gifts you could give them.

It also doesn’t have to super sappy, you can make it fun like “7 thoughts about Dad for his 70th birthday” and weave a couple funnies in to keep it light. Good luck!

I have just a few more years before I hit 70 (yikes!!).
As the previous poster stated, anything personally written or constructed would be way more valuable to this dad. You said he doesn’t hunt due to difficulty handling the cold. Maybe you could put together some sort of blind hunt where a heater could be employed? Or maybe a warmer weather outing if finances allow?

Any bucket list things he would like to do? My mom just turned 70, took her on a helicopter ride (neither one of us had done that before). Ended up being pretty neat as the chopper flew over her house.

Was also planning on hot air balloon ride too but she refused to get up that early and then the weather didn't allow it anyway so it didn't matter.

Stabilized binos. 10x30. I am sure he still enjoys seeing nature but may have significant hand shake. .
