That is absolutely smoking fast. Make sure you have your protective eyewear on! I haven’t seen anyone get 2900fps out of a 20” barrel.

That's 62gns of reloader 26 primers are good no swipes good bolt lift , I read American forums alot theirs a wealth of knowledge and have noticed alot of the speeds seem a little anemic could that be to do with altitude down here in NZ? Our 20" saums average 2950-3030 with 168 vlds 2850-2920 with 180s 30 noslers run around 3100 with 215 vlds .260s with 18"-20" barrels run 2840-2860 with 143 eldx . Alot of these iv noticed are the same powder charges so why the extra speed?

Cheers

Altitude wouldn’t have anything to do with it. It’s at the barrel, not down range. I don’t know. Just seems fast. Like 100fps fast, and usually there’s no such thing as free fps.

The most common projectile is the 162 eldm and the 168 berger vld , we have made the change from the Berger as their twice the price now at $225 NZD a box vs $115 for the eldm my 168 load was 63.6 or reloader 26 for 2950 we also run suppressors which seem to gain a little back of velocity back "20-40fps" very odd alright I had assumed it must have being something to do with altitude but as you say at the muzzle I'm curious now ,

A second saum today same spec as the other but this one has always ran about 50fps slower than the other with every load this barrel has little over 100 down the tube the other would be at 600 now

What is everyone’s thoughts on a good starting powder charge for the 180 ELDM with H1000 proof 20” barrel. Also, does anyone have a max charge for the same scenario?

I have a 26" proof throated for 175 Berger hunting hybrids at the bearing surface to be at the neck shoulder junction. I started with ADG brass, 58gns of H1000, cci 250 to break in the throat. For me it was too light of a load ~2550 fps. Started at 62 grains and worked up a ladder to 65 gn in half grain increments with no signs of pressure. Settled on 64.5 grains of H1000. Worked the seating depth back using Erik Cortinas method. Velocity started to "stabilize" around 100 rounds at 2975 - 2990.
One thing I will say about my Proof barrel is it walks early with heat. I don't know if this is a common thing with all Proof carbon barrels, but seems to be an issue with mine.

I just got a Tikka with a prefit Proof CF barrel, 24 inch, and finished loading 175 Bergers over 60 gr of H1000 just to to do seating depth test, let’s see what happens. My other 7 SAUM is a tack driver with 162 ELDX over 59.5 gr of H4831SC. I like RL 26 but here in TX I can’t run it too hot as it’s not great for temp stability and it is still hot here in November for deer opener

In my 7 saum, throated long on a long action both n565 and h1000 with 180 hybrids 2975 and 2950 respectively with right at 64 gns super accurate. I’ve seen multiple long action 7 saums doing 3030 with the 180 eldms and h1000. A little length really opens the 7 up

I'd probably do a quick 1 shot per charge ladder 60.5-64.5 in half grain or larger increments to check for velocity/pressure.
Went out to the west desert this week and started with 60.5 up to 63. Unfortunately I forgot the chronograph at home so no velocities. No pressure signs at 63grs H1000 180 eldm Norma brass federal 210 LR. That was the first 30 rounds down the barrel. Planning to rinse wash repeat and maybe run up to 64grs.

I did a ladder from 60 gr to 64.5 gr of H1000, seated at 3.025, with Berger 175 EH, never hit pressure, 24 inch barrel and ADG brass, top velocity was 2890.

Cody what is your OAL with the 180 bergers? I am making dummy rounds for my smith to throat my 7SAUM.

Hit feint pressure by 65 with H1000 and 180 ELDM … 64.0 shoots great even in the wet at ~2825. Went up to 66.0 just to find out, pushed ~2900.

The load I settled on is a 162 ELDM with 56.6 of H4350 around ~2800

22” barrel both

The H4350 load is just lighter and prefer it for shooting.
