Ok now that I have decided on the counter for a Tikka prefit 7 Saum I have a few question looking for guidance on twist rate and barrel length maybe free bore new to this so debating over 24-26 inch barrel and what’s the recommended twist rate i plan on shooting 150 grain up to 175 ELDX but maybe I’ll stick to the lower grain bullet do I need to mess with free bore to shoot 175 ELDX out of a tikka .

I have a 1:8.5 twist as well. I went with a 20" barrel since I knew I'd be using a suppressor the entire time.

26" barrel is fine - not my preference, but it's up to you and your hunting style to determine if that would work for you.
Thank you appreciate your reply
I bought it as a used barreled action. I think the smith was told it was meant to shoot those specific bullets during the build.
ok cool

Yeah I’d like to know some velocity numbers from an 18” as well. I’m going with a SA and planning to shoot the 162eldm, really hoping for 2750-2800.

Update…

18” hunter contour CRB (8.5 twist)
Kelbly Atlas Lite
Manners UC+
Hawkins DBM and rings
Trigger Tech
Ultra 7
S&B Klassik 6x42 with 3.2mil turret
8.8lbs loaded

With 64.5gr of H1000, I’m getting 2740fps from a 162gr ELDM in ADG brass with 40 rounds down the barrel. I feel certain I’ll be at or above 2800fps once it’s broken in.

I have a 1-8 twist with a 26" barrel. I wish I would have done a 22 or 24 especially now that I have a suppressor. I'm running 180 bergers at 2860 and 4831sc and tinkering with a 180 ELD at 2900. If I were to do it again though i'd build a 7-300wsm
