Hi all,

I currently shoot some Bergara rifles in 6.5c and 6.5prc. I am in the very early phases of planning a 7PRC. I always bought factory rifles so I wanted to get some feedback on my build and any advice yall are willing to share.

Action: Lone Peak Fusion
Barrell: Proof 24 " carbon sendero
Trigger: Triggertech Special
Stock: Carbon Fiber AG Composites Visigoth
Bipod: TBD
Scope: Mark4HD 4.5-18X

All criticisms and critiques are welcome. Thanks!

Absolutely nothing wrong with any of that. I really like my ag k2 stock, most of the build component stuff is just personal preference. The only thing I have changed is I’m going away from carbon wrapped barrels.

Thats fair. Do you have a recommendation for a steel barrel manufacturer? I admittingly hit the "easy" button just picking proof.

IF you like carbon proof is a great option, the couple that I had were accurate just a little slow. A steel fluted barrel is about the same weight and probably save you a few bucks. I tend to like cut rifled barrels and have had good luck with Krieger and Brux but the most accurate barrel I have currently is button rifled #7 shilen.

I have a TI Fuzion and a SS Razor, both SA. Any particular reason you want a Fuzion. The integrated rail is nice, and preferable. That said the Razor action is really nice as well. Check out TS Customs for barrels. Travis does Benchmark and CRB (all though CRB doesn't really have any good hunting barrel profiles) prefits for Lone Peak actions. He does really nice work. What bottom metal? I would not get a Leopold scope. If you want to go low cost get a SWFA 3-15 x 42.

Not sure if I am just inferring incorrectly but Proof barrels are cut rifling.

The integrated rail was a nice to have. I'll check out TS customs! I'll be going with an M5 detachable style. I am willing to spend more on a scope but I really liked the Mark4HD after chatting with a couple shooters at my last NRL match.

Jdeck09 What are you planning to use the 7PRC for? Mountain hunting where you’re carrying/hiking ? Do you shoot suppressed? How far do you want to shoot?

I'll give a different perspective. My local gunsmith as well as an out of state gunsmith both now recommend against Proof barrels due to quality issues as of late. I would recommend either Bartlein or Benchmark barrel.

It will be a mountain rifle. It will be an elk, moose, Africa gun. I regularly shoot to 600 so that will be my max range for game. I'll be picking a Thunderbeast Ultra 7 for it.

I appreciate that insight! I'm not completely sold on carbon or carbon wrapped so that's good to know.

Do you see yourself ever shooting off a tripod with an Arca rail? It’s pretty nice to have an Arca plate (integrated or bolt-on) somewhere on the forend to do that. The balance is best in front of the magwell.

I was planning on using the Salmon River Mid length arca rail. I've got the trinity rail on my other rifles for the spartan system but I think this rifle will get the Gunwerks Bipod.

Be careful, the GW bipod does not play well with most skeletonized pic rails. I know you said arca, but the SRS pics may not be the best option for a GW bipod if you go that route

Interesting! Is it a torque issue or the bipod being too far forward?

I like where you're headed but I'm going steel with mine.

I too like said above have heard the CF barrels can be a little slow. I've only had one and it was on target for velocity expectations of the rifle and very accurate. I haven't heard of any QC issues with Proof but I can point you to one to ask as he sell a bunch of them.

I was just told mine is ready from Alamo Precision rifles. I built a 7PRC to clone my 338 Edge but with a 22 inch barrel vs 28 on the Edge. The Edge weighs 8 on the nose bare rifle so the PRC will be a 6-8 ounces lighter with the shorter barrel.

I prefer the Manners Pro Hunter over the AG which I've had. But will say it's a lot more money for the stock with slight improvements over the AG. And IMO, Manners is an old Indian word for slow delivery time ;).

APR claims this heavy fluting on a steel Sendero puts it just over the weight of a proof. They've been using it for a couple years now.
