7 PRC and a Bull Elk at 627 yds. Video Included.

Looks like a big miss ! He was shooting at 627 yards to hit the bull in the neck?? Really? What are you proud of there?
These unqualified who are attempting long range shots and then with a lucky hit show their prowess on the World Wide Web like they are long range shooters. TFF

It didn't look bad to me. The bull was quartering to and right on inside of front shoulder. It certainly worked.

Really??
Looks to me like the shot was almost a clean miss . The bullet entered the neck. The bullet nearly missed the neck so high it almost went over the bull completely. Just another Terrible Hail Mary shot from one of the unqualified long range blasters.

There is impact. I think it looks fine  maybe a couple inches lower would be preferred, but that is right through the vitals with the slight quartering to imho.

I watched it a few times. It’s hard to tell for sure but it does look like it hit higher than the green circle.

It worked out, whatever.

Dude, you need your prescription checked. The shot looked perfect and you can’t get better or quicker results. However, if you have a problem with this kind of shooting there’s lots of other forums for you. The site owner has had this posted here for 13 years! Still applies today.IMG_6032.png

Shot might be a TOUCH high but it certainly got the job done and hit plenty of vitals. Good shooting and there's nothing better than walking around with a rifle that you know can put it right where you want it.

What was the shooting position?

We don’t know where the 627 yard shooter was aiming. Being an experienced hunter it’s highly unlikely an experienced shooter would be aiming at that high spot on the bull’s neck at 627 yards instead of the 14” target on the bull’s shoulder. I will stick to my call of it being a poor long range shot and a near miss by a inexperienced long range blaster.

I believe that bull dropped immediately because he hit the spine through the green circle on the image above.

Looking left of the circle, it's pretty clear to me that the shot was high.

If the shooter hit 10-12" above that circle, he hits the dirt behind the bull. Maybe he hits the hump.

Not a great shot, but an immediately dead elk.

Commonly known as the high-shoulder shot, it's an extremely effective POA, as you can see.

I know I'm splitting hairs but I wouldn't even call that a neck shot myself.

I have not looked this up so I might be way off but I would guess that there are A LOT more bad hits/miss's that equate to unrecovered animals with archery equipment than rifles. Do you suggest that we put down our bows because of this?

Perfect shot. Dead is dead, It's basically center of the killzone from that angle and clearly it works. Unbelievable someone would argue with it dead. good work.
