has anyone ever rechamered one of these? i inherited one that was sporterized 40 yrs ago by a smith. id like to be able to shoot it. id like to send it to a smith and rebarell and rechamber,i know its a money pit dont care.its been in the fsmily for. yrs.

Is it an 1891 or 1909? The 1909s are a standard 98 action and could make a nice rifle. The 1891s were small ring and Id probably leave the factory barrel on it.

I have a 1909 that was rechambered by the argentines to 30-06. I rebarreled it and made it a 6.5-06. One of my favorite rifles.IMG_5682.jpeg

In that case I would probably leave it alone or at least rebarrel to a lower pressure round like 7x57.

I know the 7.65 bullets and ammo sucks to find which is why I suspect you want to rebarrel. Ive seen one chambered in .250 savage I thought was cool but I don’t know if its low enough pressure to be safe. Best option is to have a gunsmith check it out. Probably be good to find one familiar with mausers which is getting more and more difficult.
