7.1 Ak earthquake

About 20 houses on the Kenai Peninsula got evacuated due to a gas leak and K beach Rd split. I got woken up by my wife otherwise i probably would have slept through it. It was a good one once i was awake.

Wife and I woke up but the kid slept through it. Some books fell over but that's about it. Was the worst one I've felt

We had staid up late and were just turning off the lights when it hit. A few closet doors swung open, and some small items hit the floor. Dog looked really confused. One cat hid under the couch. Not to bad.
Growing up in the Aleutians, I'm not too concerned about this stuff, but when they go on for over a minute they get annoying.

We had a couple paintings fall off the wall but only one frame was broke. Had one medicine cabinet empty onto the floor, and a bunch of misc. stuff turned over. Also had our wine rack topple off from on top of our kitchen cabinets, about a 8' drop onto hardwood floors but no breakage. Those are some tough bottles.

We have a cabin down in Kasilof about a mile from K beach rd. I'm a little worried about what we're going to find the next time we go down.

That was for sure the biggest shaker I've yet to experience in my 25 years as a resident, can't even begin to imagine what a 9.2 would feel like.

Nope things should be fine there I am 3 miles from colony.

Biggest one I have ever felt, in my 36 years of being an Alaskan. My dad was in the 64 quake. He was just getting ready to watch Fireball XL5 when the TV started rolling back and forth across the living room floor.

Felt it good here, but nothing to freak anyone out down here, but also the biggest I've felt.

It sounds like it was very similar to the "Nisqually" quake we had down here a few years ago. It too was very deep and around 7.0 Not really a violent shaking but more like standing on a boat in calm water when an unseen cruise ship goes by.

Still always very weird.
