6x45

So many good bullets in 6/45 power range it seems. I'm twisted 7.5 and so far the 75 vmax, 87vmax, 90 eld, 95 VLD and Classic all shoot great and at velocities of 2650 to 3000 fps for the 75. Maybe I can hit MO and try to stack some deer this fall.

I shot 3 whitetails this season with the 90 gr ELD-X. MV of 2,504 fps out of a 16" ULUL build.

1st - high lung shot quartering towards at 300 yds. Complete pass through. Deer dropped on impact.

2nd - Quartering low lung shot entered last ribs and broke opposite shoulder. 300 yds. Remained standing for 10 or 15 seconds then bedded. Took a minute or so to expire.

Humerus was decimated. Found a couple jacket petals while digging around and had very small fragmented exit hole in the hide. Did not find large bullet mass of any kind but did not process it due to positive CWD test.

3rd - ill-advised shot trying to fill a tag as 2nd shooter on moving animal. 250 yards, quartering away. Broke femur on entrance and exited through guts. Ran 40 yards before going down and was promptly dispatched with a shot to the neck.

Overall, I'm impressed with the damage and penetration at relatively lower impact velocities ~ 2,000 fps

There's a lot to wade through here, but it's good stuff....
Does anyone have velocity data for some of the heavier bullets in a longer barrel?
Looking for the 100gr+ in a 20/22/24" configuration for a potential western deer gun.
I love my Tikka .243, but this sure is intriguing to hit similar performance at 75% of the powder.

Got out shooting my 6/45 with 75 vmax yesterday a bit. Had a 5 shot group right around .4". Took it long on a few prairie dogs. Long was 590 yards, had a 540 and a 440. 4 shots for 3 long range dogs. The 75 vmax at 3000 from a 19" barrel allows you to enjoy varminting with your big game gun.

Working up brass now for more summer time practicing on the cheap.
