6x45

Success today with the 6x45! My daughter has always been highly opposed to recoil so we built this up and she shoots it well and shoots quite a bit. Shooting the 85 grain game king at 2640. Right at the very edge of comfort for how far I would want her to shoot. 326 yards. Perfect shot. No exit. Top of heart and one lung mushed. Well done! Congratulations to the hunter, and her Dad on a great buck.

6x45 is one of my favorite rounds and easy to shoot and load for. My typical loads are anywhere between a 70 gr blitzking at 3300 fps up to a 105 Berger at 2700 fps. It does a lot of things well with little recoil and a lot of fun in general

One hell of a shoot and one monster of a animal taken.

Another notch for the 6x45. This big boar was drinking from a windmill overflow. 70 yards or so. I shot him through the lungs hoping that he would run far enough to not have to drag him off… he made it about 15 yards before tipping over. 🤦‍♂️

85gr BTHP SGK is a killer.

I love my 6x45 I built two years ago. Its a Savage action, 20" Shaw bull barrel, MDT chassis, SWFA 6x. Great gun! Accurate as all get out. I want to hunt with it, but its 11lbs, which I feel is too heavy for these PA mountains. I'm thinking maybe I should sell it and build another.

If I were to do it again, I'd probably do a Tikka action with a 16.5" threaded barrel. Maybe CF, maybe pencil steel, idk. I'd like to keep the stock super lightweight; maybe even stick with a factory Tikka stock. Slap a Trijicon Creedo 3-9 and that would probably do. I bet I could kill anything in the PA woods with it.

I have not posted in a while, still working up loads to find my favorite in my 6x45 build - 16" barrel. So far, the best have been Hornady 90 grain ELDX and 103 grain ELD with H335, Accurate 2015 powders respectively. I got my hands on some 95 grain TMKs and I was pumped to make them work, but no such luck yet. I've tried Cfe223, Accurate 2015, H335. Going to try Benchmark next. I tried some ladders with the Eldx 103 with 8208xbr, and it was alright, but not as good as the Accurate 2015. I was seeing muzzle velocity of 2470 for the 90s and 2230 for the 103s.
