Snagged a cheap 6.5 creedmoor tx3 and ordered a stainless proof research prefit in 6mm creedmoor. 24” 1-7.5” twist, will match the tikka lite contour. Will top it with a spare Swfa 6x in leupold backcountry rings and a pic rail. Should be a fun project. Will post some pictures along the way. Hopefully I’ll get out and shoot with this nice weather before spring work gets too busy.

I’m planning to shoot the 108 eldm. If they do the job I won’t bother with handloads.

I’ve never messed with barnes bullets, they’re intriguing. Wouldn’t mind trying the lrx in my 6.5 creed

Prefit went on with no hiccups...headspace was perfect. Factory barrel came off with a outside action wrench and a cheater bar.

So let me get this straight... you ordered a factory prefit with a shoulder and not a barrel nut, and it headspaced perfectly? Was there any guarantee that would happen?
Guarantee? No. But that’s what they’re built to do. If I had issues I’m sure proof would stand behind their product. Proof does a number of shouldered prefit barrels, mostly for custom actions, that says a lot for the tikka action... I’m having my smith make me a inside action wrench so I can swap barrels if I ever want to.

I think any factory barrel will headspace fine, I’d check it to be safe still. Might toss the factory 6.5 barrel on my brother in laws 243...cheap way to have a 6.5

Intrigued by the thought of putting the 6.5 barrel on the 243. What other work would be required to make that function? Open up the bolt face? Would the current magazines work? My dad has an old 243 and thoguht of bringing it back to life with an upgrade.

Possibly need the M+ mag? I could be wrong. I’m really not a tikka guy, but I thought I saw somewhere 6.5 creed used a mag with a little longer internal length. Someone else might know better.
