So I see a lot of people Hunting Deer Elk and even Moose with 6mm Creedmoor my Question here is it seems they all Use the 108 gr ELDM over the 103 gr ELDX Why is that ? Does anyone here have experience with taking bigger game with either ? My rifle shoots Both outstanding. But I am going to start load data soon and I’m torn between what bullet to use. Thanks.

Pretty sure the 103 has a slightly larger opening when tips gone. With that said haven’t noticed the difference between 108m and 109m on game outside of BC. Max distance on game we have pushed the is only 455 yards though with eldm’s

If I was doing another load work up I’d probably try the 107TMK as I pushed Tmk’s in 22 CM and 6.5 CM to extended ranges and have love them, but I DO have 100% confidence in 108/109eldm’s killing ability at reasonable distances

I don’t shoot big game with a rifle but I’ve killed several hundred coyotes now with the 108s and the terminal performance has just been outstanding.

I was steered away from the 103s for coyotes due to them being designed for more controlled expansion on big game and thus acting more like a FMJ on coyote sized stuff.

I have a friend that has had great luck with the 103s on Antelope and deer sized game but “pencil through” type performance on coyotes. Which is maybe exactly what I’d look for in a big game bullet.

So what would you consider a reasonable range in the 6mm Creed 2980 FPS and a 108 ELDM.

type in your 2980 muzzle velocity into a ballistic solver (shooter app is free I think ) and see how far you can get with 1800 fps impact velocity at the elevation/environmtnals you will be hunting with. With my 18in 6cm (2828 fps w/ ELDX and 2783 fps w/ 108 ELDM) I wanna say both are around 650-700 yds at 1800 fps at 2k feet but that'd need to be perfect conditions for me to take that shot. Hornady factory spreads aren't always the best.

Having spent a lot of time looking at the 6mm kill thread both the 103 ELDX and 108 ELDM are very effective. I buy what's cheapest and available and between my friends and me that's usually the 108s. You can search for specific bullet kills by clicking search once in the 6mm thread then typing in "108" and changing "everywhere" to "this thread" and it will show all the kills in that thread with that bullet.

link to 6mm thread below. welcome to the forum
