I’m not sure if anyone has seen them physically yet, but tikka’s website now says that all their 243s are 1:8twist now. If that’s true it’s likely your answer for a factory gun.
Uh oh this is gonna cost me $$. Sportsman’s website still says 1:10 though

6cm may be the thing to do. I have seen ammo on the shelves, just haven't looked much at how many options there are.

6gt and 6x47lapua sound much better for barrel life, but are both SRP cases.

I fondled several Tikka T3X in .243 Win this past week at Scheels…none of them listed the twist on the barrel. All the 6.5 CM’s and PRC’s had twist rate engraved on barrel.

Guess I should’ve asked to see box
The tikkas are 1 in 10. I’m selling a proof tikka prefit barrel .243 that’s 1 in 8 twist if anyone is interested

What factory 240 weatherby round is a 600 performer?
It looks like weatherby offers the interlock and partition and both of those would hit around 2000fps at 600.
Nothing high BC from the factory.

I have had this exact idea lately. Would likely get a barrel for a tikka, Wonder if 243ai is worth the hassle over 6cm.

How many barrels on hunting rifles have you worn out?

1 in 3 years, but that's besides the point. Yes it would likely take me awhile to wear out a 6cm, but still want my barrels to last as long as possible.

I think it's referred to as 6slr a lot. I found a few comparisons of that and 6cm on some shooting forums. Edit: I now remember the 6slr is different. It is a FL die that you run the 243w brass through and it changes the shoulder angle, pushes the shoulder back a tad and increases the neck length. It is NOT a 243winAI

i love my 243 AI but i dont think the juice is worth the squeeze for most people.
my 8 tw will shoot 55gr and 108 gr fantastically. and a bud has used the same reamer and says the 115 is doing fantastic also. i have some to try soon. the short neck on the 243 AI is a problem with long bullets. you have to plan on that.

my 10 tw 243 will shoot 95 nosBal tips and partitions great.

hornady 6mm remington brass has been available most of the summer but the word is hornady brass is soft. i have a hundred set back for testing some day when my WW brass wears out. i am stocked up on winchester and remington brass from a while back. this rifle is a varmint rifle in 8 tw and it also shoots 55 gr and 108 gr very well.

Neither are going 2000 fps at 600. Those velocities are with 26" tunes, factory 240 have 24". Interestingly the interlock is going at 243 speeds.
I've had a 240 in some flavor since 1996. A fast twist and 105-115 vld is an amazing cartridge
The factory partition or interlock get handily outshone by the 6cm and eld m

Yes and no. The difference between a CM and a GT is not what people are purporting. A 108gr ELD-M at 3,000fps is a 108gr ELD-M at 3,000fps- the barrel life difference between them is like vaulting over mouse turds for the vast majority of users.

Ya, due to crap factory loadings and only 1 option for factory ammo it looks like a handloaders cartridge.

I've shot 243s for a half century and wore out two barrels in a Dakota. A few years ago, LGS had a Fieldcraft 6CM that got my attention and after shooting Hornady ammo to sight in, I made the switch and got a bunch of Alpha Brass and quality dies. A neighbor that is a very capable LR competitor put me onto RL16 that I've matched up with 108 ELD-Ms and 95 LRX for incredible groups for a 5# rifle. After taking a wolf and a caribou, I bought another Fieldcraft threaded for a suppressor with similar results. The old Dakota is now rebarreled with a fast twist 22-250 barrel.

I find the 6CM to be much less finicky for reloading.

When SIG gets there Cross chambered in 6CM, there may be one on my ATV.
