6mm ARC Velocities

I pushed my load a little bit yesterday. Loaded ten rounds at book max for cfe and got it up to 2590 in my 14.5” barrel. No pressure signs or issues. Only thing left to attempt is lever when I get my hands on some.

16 inch Faxon lightweight gunner barrel (at about 200 rounds) wearing a Nomad TI XC (that doesn’t change velocity in a meaningful way) shoots the following using Starline brass all in the 1.5-2 moa range
95gr tmk x 28.0 grains Varget = 2566fps @1.5 moa
95gr tmk x 29.0 staball match = 2517fps @ 1.5 moa
95gr tmk x 30.0 lever = 2633fps @ +2 moa
108 eldm x 29.0 lever = 2552 @ 2 moa
108 eldm x 27.5 staball = 2372fps @ 1.5 moa
105 Hornady bthp x 29.0 lever = 2562 @ terrible

HOWEVER this barrel LOVES 95gr Berger classic hunters, although I don’t know how I feel about hunting with them.

95gr Berger ch x 29.0 staball match = 2550fps 5.8sd 19.4es for 7 shots @ .734 moa
95gr Berger ch x 30.0 lever = 2663fps 13.7sd 38.3es for 7 shots @ .693 moa

At this point I guess I’m going to have to load up a bunch more of the Bergers and shoot some longer strings and distances to figure out if I want the velocity of Leverevolution or the lower sd’s and (hopefully) better temp stability of the Staball Match

You won’t have any issues with the 95 classic hunter especially at 2650 fps muzzle velocity. You are in the ideal velocity performance window and can’t go too fast to create an issue. I use them in my 243 and they have performed well on game. At least a couple deer and performance was good enough it’s the rifle my wife uses for elk. I’ve shot them out to 750-800 yards on steel and they fly well.

Interesting the Faxon likes that bullet designed for slower more traditional twist rates when the barrel has a much faster twist for more modern weight and bc bullets

Yeah, at 2650ish fps it will be fine for the altitude and distances I intend to use it but at 2550fps it’s starting to cut it a little close. I’m just glad I found a bullet the barrel likes—it was about one or two range sessions away from getting a Grendel barrel thrown back on it.
